Comparative Analysis of DICOM Data from PET/CT Scanners Across Manufacturers

This project involves the collection and comparison of PET/CT images from GE, Philips, and Siemens scanners using a standardized reference phantom. The image data has been collated and analyzed concerning DICOM header information to facilitate multi-center comparisons. Discussions with manufacturers have begun regarding the necessary DICOM information and processes. Although discussions are ongoing, the next steps include testing a digital version of the reference phantom on third-party review stations and initiating IHE processes for broader implementation.

Presentation Transcript

  1. Digital Reference Object Done • Collected PET/CT images of the same reference phantom from scanners from GE, Philips, Siemens • Image data collated and compared w.r.t. DICOM header information • Contacted Mfrs to start discussion of • DICOM information needed • Acceptable process • Not complete response yet

  2. Digital Reference Object • Sample Image Sections from Six Different Scanners Not meant as a "Consumer's Report" evaluation, but rather to facilitate multi-center comparisons

  3. Digital Reference Object Populated DICOM fields by manufacturer

  4. Digital Reference Object Next Steps: • Initiate manufacturer-driven discussion on methods for distributing and testing a purely digital version of the reference phantom • Test digital reference object on 3rd party review stations • Initiate IHE process for manufacturer-driven roll-out • Explore potential for moving further up the data generation stream, i.e., closer to raw data
