  2. Water Scarcity Bad water kills more children than war. With burgeoning populations and rapidly growing cities, the demand for water is increasing for use in agriculture, industry and households. At the same time one in three people do not have access to clean water for daily use around the world and polluted water kills more children than war. The problem is current and critical and as custodians of the earth deserves our urgent attention. Young leaders will need to find solutions to this issue in order to create a sustainable future.

Causes of water scarcity • Population growth • Food production • Climatic change and variability • Land use • Water quality • Water demand • Sectoral resources and institutional capacity • Poverty and economic policy • Legislation and water resource management • International waters • Sectoral professional capacity • Political realities • Sociological issues

  4. TASK: Produce a two part Action Plan for your stakeholder group to reduce water consumption by 20% and improve access to water significantly for one developing country, both by 2020. In the process, you will need to review your stakeholder group’s current policy and practice regarding water consumption and access and make recommendations to improve both. Topic: Reduction of Water ConsumptionYour group represents a particular stakeholder organization. Your presentation may make use of a variety of mediums and methods such as PowerPoint presentations, role –play, poems, music, song, posters, reports or pamphlets, to name a few. Duration: 15 minutes plus 5 minutes for questions and answers.
