Mission • Serving God through the lives of our members as well as the surrounding community has been the focus of the Sports and Recreation Ministries. • Mission - Playing together for God • Aren’t just a rec. league in Buckhead – we are a church league. We open our doors to children & families in the community - Over 70% not members of Northside • How do we stay focused on Mission? • To KNOWthe love of Christ, GROWas disciples of Jesus Christ and, GO out into the world and serve others

Devotionals • Player Card devotionals: • One devotional per week given to the coach to read • At the beginning of the season each player will receive one devotional card and hook for their bag • The lessons will also be emailed out each week to coaches and parents. • It is mandatory that you spend 3-5 minutes each week discussing the series with your players. Once practice has started, use it as a means for settling players down to focus and get to know your players. • Our league is not just about soccer; We are a integral part of Northside Church and it is our goal to minster to all of the children and families through our recreation Soccer league. • Be a coach your players will remember – Love the socks off them!

  5. Safe Sanctuaries + Background Checks • Northside Church has updated its policies and guidelines for volunteer staff in line with the recommendations of the United Methodist Church as a whole. • All volunteer coaches are now required to complete: • An online background check (1 per 2 years) • Safe Sanctuary Training Program • Both of these elements must be completed in order to coach in the Northside Soccer program. • After reviewing the Safe Sanctuaries Powerpoint, you can complete the quiz online: at https://northsideyouth.wufoo.com/forms/safe-sanctuary-completion-and-compliance/.

League Overview • 4 Year Old Teams (Sundays at Galloway Athletic Fields), 3v3 in nets, no gks/ no ref • 30 minute practice, 30 minute small-sided games, size 3 balls • 5/6 Coed Teams(Saturdays at MB Main), 4v4 small sided fields, no gks/no ref • Weekday practice • 5/6 Girls Teams (Saturdays at PRUMC & E-Rivers Fields – PRUMC league), 7v7 including gks • Weekday practice • 7/8 Coed Teams (Saturdays at MB Primary Field), 7v7 gks/ 1 ref • 7/8 Coed Girls (Saturdays at E-Rivers Field – PRUMC league), 7v7 gks/ 1 ref • Weekday practice • U10 Coed Teams (Saturdays at MB Primary Field), 6 v 6 or 7v7, gks/ 1 ref • U10 Girls Teams (Saturdays & Sundays at Sutton Academy Field – PRUMC league), 8v8 gks/ 1 ref • Weekday practice

  8. Important Dates • First week of practice: September 8 • First weekend of games: • 4 yr league, Sunday, Sept. 8 • 5-10 yr league, Sat. Sept 14 & 15 • No Games: October 12 & 13 • Picture weekend: Sept. 21 & 22 • End of season parties: • 4 yr league, Sunday, Nov. 3 • 5-10 yr league, Sat. Nov. 9 & 10

Coach Reminders • Email players tomorrow-introduce yourself, give practice time and contact info, start dates, uniform reminder and leave phone # • Everyone not practicing at MB Main will receive a bag with 2 balls, pinnies, and cones. All bags with all contents need to be returned at the end of the season • 4 year old equipment will be out at the field for coaches on game days • Practice & Game Tips: • Schedule a team meeting during the first practice with all parents and player • Discuss practice and game time guidelines, your goals • Establish assistant coach if needed and team parent • Bring nametags (tape) to first practice to learn names/help players learn each other’s names • Have a practice Plan • Use your whistle • End promptly • Have players help clean up after practice • Never leave the field until you have personally seen each of your players with their parent or guardian. • Always introduce yourself to referees and opposing coaches before games (Once the game starts, however, any communication between coaches should be done through the referee or official) • Always have players thank the referee after your game. • ALWAYS SET A GOOD EXAMPLE - NO MATTER WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCES

Practice/Game & Field Reminders • If you need to cancel a practice, please let us know the morning of at latest and email your team • Try to arrive at least 10-15 minutes early for your games • Park in assigned spaces only • Don’t park on the opposite side of the street at Morris Brandon Primary Center • Game schedules will come out a week before practice starts. Game schedules will be sent out at the beginning of every week, incase there are any changes. • Be sure to pick up trash/water bottles after you leave • If you need anything, ask our “field supervisor” for help • Remind parents that all kids who play on playgrounds at MB main/Primary MUST have a parent present on the playground • MB Main/Primary have port-o-potties, you will not be allowed to use restrooms in the school

Team Pictures • DATES: September 21 & 22 • Make sure to notify parents @ practice that week • Order forms will be emailed to coaches the week prior • Also available picture day • Pictures will take place before your game-please arrive 20-30 minutes early as a team • Once team picture is done, those players not doing individuals can join warmup • If you have an away game that week, we will work to find you a make up date

  12. End of Season Parties • DATES: Nov. 3, 9 and or 10 • You will receive trophies/coaches plaques • You will get a table with trophies laid out if at MB Main/Primary • Team parents can organize snacks/cake to bring • Hand out awards, recognize your players individually • You can have your team party off-site; just let us know beforehand and we will box up your trophies • If your game is away we can give you the medals early or we can organize party at last practice

  13. Weather Information • Practices are up to the coaches to cancel (with rare exceptions, i.e. floods, severe storms) Please notify NUMC staff • Games will be cancelled by league • If you have an early game and we have not called off games, assume games are “on!” • Updated Field Status http://sportsandrec.northsideumc.org/sportsleagues/soccer/ • http://www.prumcsports.org/Weather/Inclement%20Weather%20Information.htm • Check your email, you will receive rain out info on your email
