  3. Common foods and dishes The most common dishes that the romans would eat were deviled eggs, which were eaten no matter how wealthy you were. They would eat pottage, which is a thick porridge or stew. Romans ate cheese but they didn’t make their cheese out of cow milk, they used goat milk for their cheese. Bread was either made by your family or bought from a bakery. They would eat as well many different fruits. Romans never ate corn or potatoes, yes you would think that because you could easily grow them in your backyard that they would eat them, but they didn’t. They were not eaten by romans because potatoes and corn were grown in America. Pottage

  4. Different foods for different classes Upper class people didn’t have much difference with their food then the lower class, they just had a few more options. Most of the upper classes food was served with sauce, ate meat almost every meal, which was expensive. The lower class ate mostly vegetables like carrots, radishes or beans but rarely ate meat. There wasn’t much flavour in their food so they used salt and pepper to induce the flavour. Carrots Salt&Pepper Radishes

  5. Fruits and vegetables The fruits and vegetables romans ate are not different from the ones we eat today. The fruits they ate were pears, plums, pomegranates, apples and grapes. The vegetables they ate were carrots, radishes, beans, turnips, celery, cabbage and mushrooms. Celery Plum Apple Beans

  6. Meats Deer Meat wasn’t very common, only the wealthy people would eat the most top grade meat. They would normally eat meat for supper and sometimes lunch. The meats they would eat were, beef, pork, vension, wild bore, hare, chicken and duck. Vension is also known as deer. Chicken Hare Wild Bore Duck Beef

  7. Adding Flavour To add flavour they used salt and pepper herbs and spices, wine, cheese, olive oil , honey replaced sugar because sugar was not around, wheat , sauces made with vinegar, honey, pepper, herbs and spices. Things were either boiled or fried because ovens weren’t common.

  8. Meals For breakfast they usually ate slice of bread or wheat pancakes with dates or honey. For lunch they drank wine, had a light serving of bread with cheese and if wealthy, meat. For supper/cena they had bread, fruit, meat and wine.

  9. Gatherings To show how wealthy they were , they would host a get together at their and having different foods that only wealthy people could afford. Some things would be roast peacock and ostrich.
