SWIMS – LIBRARY CATALOGUE • SWIMS stands for South West Information Management System • It is a catalogue that lists books, journals and all other catalogued resources in our library and other NHS libraries in our region • You can access this from anywhere where you have an internet connection • This guide shows you how to use SWIMS • First of all, you need to go to http://www.swims.nhs.uk

3. SEARCH SWIMS • You can search using a number of options • In our example, we have chosen Title/Author search

4. ENTER THE SEARCH DETAILS By entering a asterisk before the start of the title, will bring up all items with ethics in the title By default it will search the books held by us but display items at all locations When you have finished entering the details, click on search • Narrow the search down by……. • Year of publication • By the Library e.g. Reading/Prospect Park/PPH • By material e.g. a journal, DVD, CD-ROM • To chose more than one location, press Ctrl and click

5. SEARCH RESULTS Click on the item you wish to check

LOCATION OF ITEM Further assistance can be found by clicking on help From the results page, we can check to see if we have the item We can also check it’s availability and loan period You can also check what other items are available by the same author or in the same subject areas This is where the item is shelved If the item that you want is unavailable at PPH, then we may be able to obtain it for you from another library.
