  2. Summary of last time: • “He shall be called a Nazarene”

  3. Matthew 2:23 NASU (23) and came and lived in a city called Nazareth. This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophets: "He shall be called a Nazarene."

  4. Isaiah 11:1 & 2 NASU Then a shoot will spring from the stem of Jesse, And a branch from his roots will bear fruit. (2) The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.

  5. John’s purpose: • Turn the sons of Israel back to the Lord their God • Go as a forerunner before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah • Make ready a people prepared for the Lord • The prophet of the Most High to prepare His ways

  7. Matthew 3:1-3 NASU Now in those days John the Baptist *came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, (2) "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." (3) For this is the one referred to by Isaiah the prophet when he said, "THE VOICE OF ONE CRYING IN THE WILDERNESS, 'MAKE READY THE WAY OF THE LORD, MAKE HIS PATHS STRAIGHT!'"

(12) "His winnowing fork is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clear His threshing floor; and He will gather His wheat into the barn, but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."
