  5. PREPARATION M: In the name of the Father and of the Son † and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen

  6. hymn Blessed are the heirs of heaven LHS 484 CAL293 Selig sind des HimmelsErben Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock (1724-1803) Tr. Carl Doving, 1907, alt.

  7. Blessed are the heirs of heaven 1. Blessed are the heirs of heaven, The dead who rise in Christ forgiven. They shall from death to life arise, After death’s short, restful slumber They wake to pleasures without number. To joy and bliss that never dies. ››

  8. Blessed are the heirs of heaven All cares and sorrows cease, They rest in perfect peace. Hallelujah! Before God’s throne, To His dear Son, Their works of faith will follow on.

  9. Blessed are the heirs of heaven 2. Glory, praise and glad thanksgiving Be unto God, the ever-living. And to the Lamb for sinners slain! Ransomed host that now victorious Hast won the crown of life all glorious. Extol the Lamb, enthroned to reign. › ›

  10. Blessed are the heirs of heaven For us Himself He gave, He sank into the grave, He is risen! He went before Through death’s dark door; We follow to the heavenly shore.

  11. Blessed are the heirs of heaven 3. Sun nor moon their light are casting Where God in glory everlasting Dispels the gloomy shades of night. Now the day we sought appeareth, O blessed sight, our soul it cheereth. The Lamb is now our sun and light. › ›

  12. Blessed are the heirs of heaven We weep and mourn no more, The former life is o’er. Hallelujah! Death’s shades now flee. We rise to see The dayspring of eternity. †

  13. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION M: Friends in Christ: Let us confess our sins to God our Father and ask him in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to forgive us. C: We confess that we are born in bondage to sin And cannot free ourselves.

  14. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, By what we have done And by what we have failed to do. We have not loved you with our whole heart, And we have not loved our neighbour as ourselves.

  15. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION We deserve your eternal punishment. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us.

  16. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name. Amen. M: Upon your confession, as a called and ordained servant of the word, I announce the grace of God to all of you.

  17. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION On behalf of my Lord Jesus Christ, and by his command, I forgive the sins of all of you who repent and believe, in the name of the Father and of the Son † and of the Holy Spirit. Peace be with you. C: Amen.

  18. Liturgy of the word

  19. GREETING M: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you.

  20. PRAYER OF THE DAY M: Let us pray. C: Almighty God, you bring your people together in one holy church, the body of our Lord. Lead us to follow your saints and to know the inexpressible joys that you have prepared for those who love you.

  21. PRAYER OF THE DAY We ask this through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

  22. FIRST READING R: The first Reading for All Saints Day is written in chapter seven of Daniel beginning at verse one. Daniel 7:1-3,15-18 CEV Daniel's vision of the holy ones of the Most High

  23. Daniel 7:1-3,15-18 1-2Daniel wrote: In the first year of King Belshazzar of Babylonia, I had some dreams and visions while I was asleep one night, and I wrote them down.

  24. Daniel 7:1-3,15-18 The four winds were stirring up the mighty sea,3when suddenly four powerful beasts came out of the sea. Each beast was different. 15 I was terrified by these visions, and I didn't know what to think.

  25. Daniel 7:1-3,15-18 16So I asked one of those standing there and he explained, 17"The four beasts are four earthly kingdoms. 18But God Most High will give his kingdom to his chosen ones, and it will be theirs forever and ever." This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  26. Psalm 149 CEV R: The Psalm is Psalm 149. 1Shout praises to the LORD! Sing him a new song of praise when his loyal people meet. C: 2People of Israel, rejoice because of your Creator. People of Zion, celebrate because of your King.

  27. Psalm 149 CEV R: 3Praise his name by dancing and playing music on harps and tambourines. C: 4The LORD is pleased with his people, and he gives victory to those who are humble.

  28. Psalm 149 CEV R: 5All of you faithful people, praise our glorious LORD! Celebrate and worship. C: 6Praise God with songs on your lips and a sword in your hand. R: 7Take revenge and punish the nations. C: 8Put chains of iron on their kings and rulers.

  29. Psalm 149 CEV R: 9Punish them as they deserve; this is the privilege of God's faithful people. Shout praises to the LORD! C: Glory to the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit As it was in the beginning is now and will be forever. Amen.

  30. SECOND READING R: The second reading is written in chapter one of Ephesians beginning at verse eleven. Ephesians 1:11-23CEV God's blessings through Christ for his people

  31. Ephesians 1:11-23 11God always does what he plans, and that's why he had Christ choose us. 12He did this so that we Jews would bring honour to him and be the first ones to have hope because of him. 13Christ also brought you the truth, which is the good news about how you can be saved.

  32. Ephesians 1:11-23 You put your faith in Christ and were given the promised Holy Spirit to show that you belong to God. 14The Spirit also makes us sure that we will be given what God has stored up for his people. Then we will be set free, and God will be honoured and praised.

  33. Ephesians 1:11-23 15I have heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all of God's people. 16So I never stop being grateful for you, as I mention you in my prayers. 17I ask the glorious Father and God of our Lord Jesus Christ to give you his Spirit.

  34. Ephesians 1:11-23 The Spirit will make you wise and let you understand what it means to know God. 18My prayer is that light will flood your hearts and that you will understand the hope that was given to you when God chose you.

  35. Ephesians 1:11-23 Then you will discover the glorious blessings that will be yours together with all of God's people. 19I want you to know about the great and mighty power that God has for us followers.

  36. Ephesians 1:11-23 It is the same wonderful power he used 20when he raised Christ from death and let him sit at his right side in heaven. 21There Christ rules over all forces, authorities, powers, and rulers. He rules over all beings in this world and will rule in the future world as well.

  37. Ephesians 1:11-23 22God has put all things under the power of Christ, and for the good of the church he has made him the head of everything. 23The church is Christ's body and is filled with Christ who completely fills everything. This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God.

  38. C: Alleluia. Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Alleluia. Alleluia.

  39. GOSPEL M: The Holy Gospel is written in the chapter six of the Gospel according to St Luke beginning at verse twenty. C: Glory be to you, O Lord. Luke6:20-31CEV Blessed are the poor and the persecuted

  40. Luke6:20-31 M: 20Jesus looked at his disciples and said: God will bless you people who are poor. His kingdom belongs to you! 21God will bless you hungry people. You will have plenty to eat! God will bless you people who are crying. You will laugh!

  41. Luke6:20-31 22God will bless you when others hate you and won't have anything to do with you. God will bless you when people insult you and say cruel things about you, all because you are a follower of the Son of Man.

  42. Luke6:20-31 23Long ago your own people did these same things to the prophets. So when this happens to you, be happy and jump for joy! You will have a great reward in heaven.

  43. Luke6:20-31 24But you rich people are in for trouble. You have already had an easy life! 25You well-fed people are in for trouble. You will go hungry! You people who are laughing now are in for trouble. You are going to cry and weep!

  44. Luke6:20-31 26You are in for trouble when everyone says good things about you. That is what your own people said about those prophets who told lies.

  45. Luke6:20-31 27This is what I say to all who will listen to me: Love your enemies, and be good to everyone who hates you. 28Ask God to bless anyone who curses you, and pray for everyone who is cruel to you. 29If someone slaps you on one cheek, don't stop that person from slapping you on the other cheek.

  46. Luke6:20-31 If someone wants to take your coat, don't try to keep back your shirt. 30Give to everyone who asks and don't ask people to return what they have taken from you. 31Treat others just as you want to be treated. This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise be to you, O Christ.

  47. PRAYER AFTER THE GOSPEL M: Thank you, Lord Jesus, for becoming poor for our sakes. Bless us who are poor in spirit, and make us children of your kingdom. C: Amen.
