  2. Launch Word

  3. Common Shortcuts • New File = Ctrl + N • Save File = Ctrl + S • save as “02test” in word folder • in comp_lit folder • Close File = Ctrl + W • Open File = Ctrl + O • navigate to word folder • in comp_lit folder • double-click “02test”

  4. Create Sample Text • In text area type: • =rand () • then hit enter • Ctrl + S to save

  5. spacing should be 0 pt

  6. Using the Enter Key • Enter • new paragraph • Shift + Enter • new line, same paragraph

  7. Create New Pargraph • position cursor at end of text • hit enter key

  8. Backspace v. Delete • Backspace • clears text to the left • Delete • clears text to the right

  9. Backspacing • Type the following sentence: • Joe has a very large houses. • place cursor between period and “s” in “houses.” • Backspace to remove the extra “s”

  10. Deleting • place cursor before “v” in “very” • press Delete key to remove “very” • The sentence should now read: • Joe has a large house.

  11. Insert v. Overtype • Insert • place new text between existing text • Overtype • replace old text with new text

  12. Insert • place cursor before “house” • type: • blue • hit space bar • The sentence should now read: • Joe has a large blue house.

  13. Customize Status Bar • right-click status bar • click overtype

  14. Overtype • click Insert on status bar • turns overtype on • hit Home key • Type: • Bob • click Overtype on status bar • turns overtype off

  15. Customize Status Bar • right-click status bar • click overtype • to remove checkmark

  16. Replacing • Double-click the word “house” • Type: • boat • The sentence should now read: • Bob has a large blue boat. • Ctrl + S to save

  17. Cut, Copy, Paste • Cut • moves text to the clipboard • Ctrl + X • Copy • duplicates text to the clipboard • Ctrl + C • Paste • place text from clipboard into text area • Ctrl + V

  18. Copying • triple-click the word “Bob” • the entire paragraph is selected • Ctrl + C to copy • Ctrl + Home to go to beginning • Ctrl + V to Paste

  19. Cutting • triple-click “Bob” in the first line • the entire paragraph is selected • Ctrl + X to cut • Ctrl + End to go to end • Ctrl + V to Paste • Ctrl + S to save

  20. Adding Emphasis • Bold • makes text darker • Ctrl + B • Italicize • makes text slanted • Ctrl + I • Underline • places line under text • Ctrl + U for single line • Ctrl + Shift + D for double line • Ctrl + Shift + W for words only

  21. Bold, Italics, Underline • double-click “Insert” on line one • hold down Ctrl key (don’t let go) • double-click “Home” on line seven • highlight “Page Layout” on line nine • hit B, U, and I keys • release Ctrl key • Ctrl + S to save
