  1. 1. When to go • The majority of Barrier Reef islands lie north of the tropic of Capricorn and have a distinctly monsoonal climate. In the hot, wet season (roughly December-April), downpours that can limit outdoor activities and mar underwater visibility for days. The warm days, clear skies, and pleasantly cool nights of the Dry season, especially June-August, are ideal for traveling around and above Cairns.

  2. 2.The transportation --- how to get there • Travelers coming from abroad need to change planes in Sydney before landing at Cairns International Airport. From there, visitors can travel by scheduled boat, water taxi, or seaplane to various island and rain forest destinations. Hamilton Island also has its own airport; Qantas runs 35 flights per week round-trip from Cairns, Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne .Note that for these small flights, a baggage weight limit of 33 pounds sometimes applies—so to be on the safe side, pack light.

  3. 3.Don’t litter • One of the key threats faced by the Great Barrier Reef is pollution . The carol is a living thing and an UNESCO World Heritage site. Never touch the coral, stand on the coral or litter the water while on your snorkeling adventure There would be nothing worse than having the magical experience broken by seeing a wrapper floating by.

  4. 4.Gain more knowledge • Brush up on your reef knowledge in advance. There are so many amazing aspects of the Great Barrier Reef, many that can’t be appreciated its full potential without having knowledge on the subject. Researching these in advance can make the whole experience much more amazing when you spot one in the deep blue sea.

  5. 5.Medical treatment and Safety • You'll find large, well-equipped hospitals in Cairns, Townsville, and Mackay. Employees at island resort front desks handle emergencies and can summon doctors and ambulance services. Remote islands have "flying doctor" kits.

  6. 6.How to protect yourself • Avoid midday rays and wear a hat and SPF15+ sunscreen to prevent sunburn. Avoid touching coral: it is easily damaged, and can cut and sting. Clean cuts thoroughly, scrubbing with a brush and flushing with saline solution. Toxic and stinging jellyfish frequent waters off the mainland and some Barrier Reef islands over the warmer months. Avoid the ocean without a stinger suit at these times. If in doubt, ask a local.

  7. 7.Tipping • Tipping has become a style of the Australian for good service in the restaurants. Tipping is not compulsory as service charges are normally added in the last amount of the bills.

  8. 8.Be careful about the insects • Mosquitoes, midges, and leeches can be a problem in wet summer months. Wear insect repellent; leeches are best removed by applying a flame or salt. Estuarine crocodiles live in rivers and coastal waters along the north Queensland coast, and on some Barrier Reef islands. Don't swim where crocs live (ask a local), especially in breeding season, September to April. Never dangle your limbs over the sides of boats.

  9. 9.Rent an underwater camera • Rent an underwater camera during the entire adventure . If you have the chance to grab an underwater camera of sorts before leaving, do so. It is so happy to have the amazing underwater photos as a memory of the magical world that is the Great Barrier Reef. Imagine having shots of your entire family seeing the Reef for the very first time.

  10. 10.Dangerous creature in the sea • Beautiful and transparent jellyfish can be easily seen in the rainy season but they are considered to be most dangerous creature of the reef waters. So it is always necessary to obey all the rules given be the authority and watch out the safety warnings before visiting any places on the reef to avoid marine threats attack. Major safety precautions and sign boards are placed near the beaches especially for the tourist, and it helps to make all the tours more safe and secure.
