What is Digital Etiquette? • often times referred to as netiquette • includes information that refers when it is appropriate to use different forms of communication • deemed as a set of vital rules to follow while interacting appropriately in the digital world, such as texting, Emailing, social networking sites, and etc.

  7. Why is this important? Primary Importance: Students will learn the essential set of rules they should follow to ensure safety on the Internet. Once students gain knowledge in this particular area, they are able to successfully exhibit the significance of digital etiquette and how it solely affects others. At the conclusion of this presentation, participants will be able to answer the following: 1. Am I aware of how my usage of technology affects others? 2. How can I help others become more conscious of the effects of their technology use? Objective(s): • Students will be completely conscious of the set rules of etiquette that mainly is apparent with technology usage; therefore being able to exhibit the behavior learned. • Participants will recognize, and clarify the regulations of etiquette that exist with technology use.

Summary: • Turn cell phone on silent/vibrate when appropriate • Only respond and send text messages at appropriate times and places • Speak on a cell phone only at appropriate times and places • Proof-read all forms of digital communication for grammar and punctuation errors before sending and/or replying • When speaking on a cell phone in public setting, refrain from not speaking so loudly that it appears to distract others • Seek prior authorization before posting images/video of others on the Internet (respect the privacy of others) • Stay alert of social media status updates
