Contents of a good business plan • Include the following: • Summary of the business • Background to the enterprise, why set up etc • What is the business? • Who’s involved? • What is the market and your place in it? • How will your enterprise operate? • What will you need to set up and run the business? • What could go wrong on the way? • What will happen in the future? • How will you track progress? • No one size fits all • Remember the different readers - funder, director, employee, customer...

  8. Common business plan mistakes • Too long, too short.... • Where is the need? • Full of vision and sentiments • How are you going to do it? • Our cashflow doesn’t add up! • Cash is king • Who wrote it? • Where is it....

Top business plan tips The process: • Involve everyone in drawing up the business plan - divvy out the tasks • Dedicate at least 3 meetings to produce it The content: • Make it personal and interesting • Get people excited about what you are doing • Tell the story • Presentation is crucial – add photos, personal testimonials etc, avoid complicated spreadsheets, produce a summary And afterwards: • Make it available to your members and community to read • Review and revise • Learn from failures and adapt, allow at least 3 months to change
