The Giant Panda • Description: A black-and-white bear which is thick to keep them warm in the cool forests of its habitat. They have large molar teeth and strong jaws muscles to crush bamboo. They tend to be the size of black bears and weigh up to 250 pounds. • Habitat: Broadleaf and coniferous forests with a dense understory of bamboo. • Food source: Primarily bamboo • Reason For Becoming Endangered: Habitat loss, hunting for the pelts, and low birth rate.
Clouded Leopard Description: Named for the large cloud-like spots on its body. They are medium sized that have a grayish and yellowish coat. The spots usually spot a black outline that helps with camouflage. They have a long tail and strong stout legs for climbing. They often weigh 35-50 pounds. Habitat: Forests in elevations up to 8,000 feet and spend most of their time in trees. Food Source: Everything from birds to monkeys to wild pigs. Reason For Becoming Endangered: Habitat loss due to deforestation, illegal hunting for Chinese medicines, and demands for pelts.

They can weigh 55 to 130 pounds. They communicate through barks, howls, and whining. Wolves travel in packs. • Habitat: these wolves live all over America. They like the rock mountain kind of areas. • Food Source: elk, deer, moose, and caribou. A wolf is also a scavenger. • Reason for Becoming Endangered: humans kill them to protect their livestock or hunting.
Burrowing Owl • Description: got its name from the habit of living in underground burrows. They are covered in brown spotted feathers and have long legs. The owl has white eye brows above its yellow eyes. It is one of the smallest owls in North America. • Habitat: live underground in burrows. • Food Source: small mammals, insects, amphibians, reptiles, and other birds. • Reason For Becoming Endangered: habitat destruction, agricultural pesticides, and predators.
Hummingbird • Description: this bird is small and colorful. It can include iridescent colors on its feathers. This bird can move forward, up, down, and backward. They hover and flap their wings in a figure 8 pattern. This bird also has a long tapered bill that is used to obtain nectar from long tubular flowers. Their feet are only used for perching. • Habitat: live in trees and around flowers for their food source. • Food Source: flower nectar, insects, tree sap, and pollen. • Reasons For Becoming Endangered: they are killed for the feathers and habitat destruction.
