Parable of the Pounds Luke 19:11-27 Pound = “mina” a coin Ten Servants Purpose = Verse 11
Parable of the Pounds Figures used Nobleman = Jesus Far country = Heaven Pound = Gospel and our responsibilities Servants = Christians Return = second coming
The Capital • A Sum of Money • Symbolizes the Gospel • Each servant given a pound • We have the Treasure of the Gospel
The Business • Occupy • “do business till I come” • “trade ye herewith till I come” • Gospel = use or distribute
The Audit • First Servant • Humble attitude • Gained ten pounds • Commended • Rewarded
The Audit • Second Servant • Easy going • True servant • Gained five pounds • Rewarded
The Audit • Third Servant • Did nothing • No sense of responsibility • Tried to justify his behavior • “wicked servant” • Sin of omission
Lessons • Not same as Parable of Talents • Each servant has same • Gospel – build up the kingdom • 1 Thes. 2:4 “put in trust with the gospel” • 1 Tim. 1:11 “gospel…committed to my trust” • 1 Tim. 6:20 “keep that which is committed to thy trust”
Lessons • Use it or Lose It • Luke 19:26 “I say unto you, that unto every one that hath shall be given; but from him that hath not, even that which he hath shall be taken away from him.” • Neglect to use trust committed to him • What we use we have • Abilities to serve become less when we refuse to use the opportunities
Parable of the Pounds “And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:2 “I can’t” - - - “I do not wish to try” Attitude of 1st servant - Do the Best I can
