  3. Seven Ways to Live in Crete • Understanding our identity • Growing in godliness • Enjoying eternity right now • Counting on God’s character • Trusting God’s timing • Giving primacy to proclamation • Committing to what we have in common

  4. 1. Understanding our Identity • “A servant of God” – to be a slave unto God • “An apostle of Jesus Christ” - sent one • Keep the order straight – first a slave then sent out

  5. 2. Grow In Godliness • Knowledge = Duty; knowledge is more than just facts…it must transform the way we live. • Godliness = well worshipped • Preoccupation from the heart with holy and sacred realities. • Godliness is a love for the things of God and a walk in the ways of God.

  6. 3. Enjoy Eternity Now v.2a • Knowledge of God is the foundation of our faith • Hope = Certainty • Looking forward with confident expectation based on what God has revealed • Knowing what our hope accelerates our godly living

Basis for belief is in God himself. “He who is the Glory of Israel does not lie or change his mind.” I Samuel 15:29 “It is impossible for God to lie.” Hebrews 6:18 “Every promise has been fulfilled; not one has failed” (Joshua 23:14) “the LORD is faithful to all his promises.” Psalm 145:13 4. Count on God’s Character v.2b

  8. 5. Trust God’s timing v.3a • “But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law.” Galatians 4: 4 • “…he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live.” Acts 17:26

  9. 6. Give Primacy to Proclamation v.3b • We must earn the right to be heard and live a lifestyle that makes people thirsty, but we must also proclaim the message with our mouths. • Acts 2:42“devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching.” • 1 Corinthians 9:16-17

  10. 7. Commit to What We Have in Common v.4 • John 17:21 - “…that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you.” • As we commit to what we have in common … we will more effectively “be his witnesses” and able to stand in a Cretan like culture.

  11. We Can Stand, by God’s Grace, by: • Understanding our identity • Growing in godliness • Enjoying eternity right now • Counting on God’s character • Trusting God’s timing • Giving primacy to proclamation • Committing to what we have in common
