  1. Mrs. Coulson’s Class4th Grade NewsletterOctober 2012 Reading: Our Reading Groups are in full swing. Your child should be bringing home a ziploc bag with their reading book and questions that go along with it. We meet on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. All homework should be completed so they are ready for our group meetings on each of those days. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays, we read some great stories from our basal reader. Because this book is so heavy, it will rarely come home. Math: Math SOL 4.4 In Mrs. Mason’s room, the students are working on multiplication. I’m sure you’ve heard about the videos they have been working on. We can’t wait to watch them once the editing has been completed. Mrs. Mason will be teaching the lattice method, partial products and the “old school” method. Please review their multiplication tables several times a week, especially if you see this is needed. Science: Science SOL 4.5, 4.2, 4.3 We are finishing our study of Living Systems. Our test will be on Tuesday, Oct. 9th. Our next unit will be Force, Motion, and Energy. We will continue to integrate experiments into our lessons. The students have enjoyed learning the steps of the scientific method while conducting their experiments. I will be sending out an email soon for some objects we need for some of the projects. VA Studies: VS.3, VS.4 Our test on the first permanent English settlement in America (VS.3) will be this Friday. We will then begin learning about the life in the Virginia Colony (VS.4) This will include the importance of agriculture, immigrants, indentured servants, and how money, barter, and credit were used.
