  1. Reading motivationpresentation at RENT by Ida Gyde Purpose To produce new knowledge about the connection between students’ literacy difficulties, reading motivation and the didactic framing

  2. Research question • To which degree can respectively a goal- driven , a medium controlled and an individual compensatory didactic stimulate students’ reading motivation ?

  3. Three didactic logics will be examined: • Causation • Effectuation • An individual compensatory logic • An underlying question is: How can students develop their reading motivation through mastery experience?

  4. Overview (2) Research question -------- (3) Research findings How can different didactic logics stimulate pupils Reading motivation?  Abstraction Translation (1) Practical problem or (4) Solution or knowledge gap ---------- recommendations Many pupils lack reading motivation

  5. Methodology • A descriptive multi case study on a phenomenological basis which examines three areas: a) literacy, b) students mastery experiences and 3) didactics • Focus is on reading motivation and deveopment of coping for students with poor literacy skills and the way literay is taught from three different didactic logics

  6. Design of the study • The first case study ( goal driven ) is probably the most representative according to the didactic setting in elementary school in the subject ‘Danish’ in 8th grade and will serve as a pilot study for the next two case studies and thereby generate assumptions for theese

  7. My challenges right now • Is it necessary to start my research with a survey to find schools for my case studies and howcould I do this? • Is it a goodidea to choosethreefocus pupils as my unit of analysisand the didacticsetting as the context or should I choose the didacticsetting as my unit of analysis ?
