    2. Vision from 2008 To assist in strengthening and creating FACSE programs in all 16 of the National standards and spotlighting the rigor in our programs so they will shine. HOW DID WE DO THIS YEAR?

    3. 1.Complete, update and post frameworks for all courses with current CIP codes through evaluation and approval from the field. The vision

    4. Frameworks Nancy Jewett, Janice Hewitt, Melinda Peine, Mary Walker, Lyn Morris, Laura Jensen and Tricia Littlefield served on the new textiles and apparel framework committee. Leslie Nuttman, Kathi Hendrix and Diane Carver assisted with financial education. Karen Palmer, Janice Hewitt, Michelle Hudson, Jill Sulkosky, and Karri Selby helped with completion of the Statewide AIS articulations.

    5. The Vision 2. Improve communication among FACSE teachers, professional organizations and the state.

Communication Molly Galbreath, Roxanne McNerney, Marcia Lalonde, & Loretta Davidson all helped me to get the word out and improve communication with the field… thus all those e-mails. “MEMOS from Mary” goes to 585 teachers CTE Connections The Area 8 Chair Kathy Schutz re-organized the Area Group notebooks for us.

    11. The Vision 4. Demonstrate the rigor in our programs through connecting equivalency and AP crosswalks. 5. Increase the design offerings and their tie to the Arts credits and the AP Portfolio.

Preparatory Criteria All approved preparatory secondary career and technical education programs must meet the following minimum criteria: Either: Lead to a certificate or credential that is state or nationally recognized by trades, industries, or other professional associations as necessary for employment or advancement in that field; or Allow students to earn dual credit for high school and college through tech prep, advanced placement, or other agreements or programs; Be comprised of a sequenced progression of multiple courses. (Developed under RCW 28A.655.065)

    21. STARS Registration An agreement was reached with WA-YEC to allow FACS Teachers to do their own reporting. Rhonda Austing has done a great job putting together a wonderful training about this and I have learned a lot about WEB-I-Nar’s White River, Vancouver, Olympia and New Market ECE teachers have been working on an apprenticeship pilot and have all received 9500.00 2 year renewable apprenticeship grants . I have worked with the TRFT program and the Center for Excellence in Education to strengthen the Careers in Ed. programs and will continue that work.

    22. What has OSPI done for me lately? ? Legislative Update Budget — 2009-11 Biennium $5.5 million – High-Demand grants and Course Equivalencies $1.7 million for High-Demand Grants (Green Construction, Manufacturing and Power/Energy, Healthcare, and STEM) $150,000 for FIRST Robotics, FIRST Lego, FIRST Tech $194,000 – Career and Technical Student Organizations $150,000 – Financial Literacy $350,000 – Pre-Apprenticeship Programs/up to $19,000 for start-up grants in Sept./ Pilot grants for 40,000 over 2 years $6.4 million – Navigation 101 $1.3 million – Comprehensive Dropout Prevention and Retrieval 22

    23. Middle School STEM — SB 5676 Changed grant program to formula funding Same funding rate as high schools Thus far, 98 programs have been Approved. More are under review. Peggy Templeton from Central Kitsap has done a creative Framework connecting FACSE Food Science and STEM 23

    24. Integration Creates High Demand" at the OSPI / WA-ACTE Workshop November 5-6, 2009, Great Wolf Lodge, Grand Mound WA. Registration Deadline October 31.   Middle School STEM Math integration into the Financial Fitness framework with Anton the “math wizard.”

    25. A look ahead for OSPI In 2009-10, we will: Grow green technology education options. Increase equivalency crediting opportunities. Promote CTE / Advanced Placement courses. Enrich comprehensive high school CTE offerings. 25
