  1. Bible 10 Journal: 04 September 2013 A man is face down in the dirt. He appears to be unconscious but breathing. Speculate what might have happened.

  2. Further details: The dirt he’s lying in is brick dust. He has a bruise on his head between his left eye and left ear.

  3. Further details, continued: There is a crowd of other men around him dressed exactly like him, wearing Yankees hats, jerseys, and cleats. There is a baseball lying on the ground nearby.

  4. Speculation “Reasoning based on inconclusive evidence; conjecture or supposition.” “A hypothesis that has been formed by speculating or conjecturing, usually with little hard evidence.”

  5. Inference To infer means “to gather in.” In logic, inference refers to the process of collecting data from numerous sources, and then drawing conclusions on the basis of this evidence.

  6. Reasonable vs. Possible While it’s possible that we are in the matrix… it is not reasonable

  7. What if the truth isn’t clear? More qualifiers P39 Truth must be feasible & logical will usually be straightforward, will be exhaustive and superior.

  8. The Minimal Facts Approach • Jesus died on the cross and was buried. • Jesus’s tomb was empty and no one ever produced his body. • Jesus’s disciples believed that they saw Jesus resurrected from the dead. • Jesus’s disciples were transformed following their alleged resurrection observations.

  9. CCC pp41-49 in pairs/small groups: -What is the explanation? (hint: usually in the first paragraph) -What are the problems of the explanation? (hint: find the word “fails” or “concerns”)

  10. Final Explanation: The disciples accurately reported the resurrection of Jesus • It accounts for the empty tomb, the resurrection observations, and the transformation of the apostles. • Problems? It requires a belief in the supernatural.
