  3. Qur’an • DEFINITION: The holy book of Islam. • DETAIL: There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet

  4. Sunnah • DEFINTION: A written record of Muhammad’s words and actions. The Sunnah refers to the way Muhammad lived and provides a model for the duties and way of life expected of Muslims. • DETAIL: Details how a Muslim should act. Rules for behavior. Contains the Five pillars of Islam.

  5. Five Pillars of Islam • DEFINITION: Five acts of worship required by all Muslims. • DETAILS: • Statement of faith • Daily prayer (5x per day) • Charity • Fasting during Ramadan • Hajj - pilgrimage

  6. Shariah • DEFINITION: Islamic law. Based on interpretations of the Qur’an and Sunnah. • DETAILS: Not found in a book. Sets rewards and punishments for behavior. Islamic law has changed over time.
