Training Guidance Support • IAW JROTC Directorate FY 14 Training Guidance • Para 3a. “… we must ensure our instructors are better prepared to accomplish their missions even before getting into the classroom.” Results: • Fort Hays developed the JROTC Instructor Prep Certificate at Graduate and Undergraduate levels (see handouts) • Certificate includes three credits of ‘Student Teaching’ practicum evaluated by Fort Hays School of Education “I was amazed at how much I have learned over this short period of time. I plan to review these textbooks [Educational Psychology & Secondary Methods] even more extensively as they contain a remarkable amount of information that will assist me in becoming a great educator. I never realized how much research has been conducted on teaching methods and how children learn.” An Army JROTC Instructor

Training Guidance Support • IAW JROTC Directorate FY 14 Training Guidance • Para 4. “Enhanced JROTC Program Awareness in your High Schools.” Results: • College Credits for Cadets (CCC) program elevates the academic recognition of the JROTC curriculum • Some schools are developing “Leadership Academies.” • CCC Exceeds all other High School program academic credit potential (22+ credits) • Demonstrates the JROTC is more than great drill/raider or rifle teams as shown by the academic college credit potential “RTG & Associate’s Leadership Credits Program is invaluable!” “Many of our college bound cadets are interested or already registered.” “…nothing but positive responses from parents.” “…adds an extra dimension to our JROTC program. “ “…helping students prepare for their future.” “Thank you for all of your help and for giving these students a head start.” An Air Force JROTC Instructor

Training Guidance Support • IAW JROTC Directorate FY 14 Training Guidance • Para 6. “Instructors must continue to stay current with Teaching Strategies and techniques.” Results: • Fort Hays State University’s Instructor Prep Certificate helps accomplish this objective • Evaluated via Student Teaching Practicum • Educating Exceptional Students course work • Educational Psychology, Secondary Methods, Classroom management and Learning and the Brain via DL and capstone paper • Introduction to Utilization of Technology in Classrooms course compliments the JSOCC/NIOT instruction “I was able to reflect upon my practice from another perspective [while taking Secondary Methods and Educational Psychology].  I found it very helpful in figuring out my strengths and weaknesses over the past year and where I can improve next. .” An Army JROTC Instructor

Results • Results from: • Fort Hays State University since 2009 • 1367 course enrollments • 42 Degrees conferred to Instructors • 7 Associate • 22 Bachelor • 13 Master’s • Adams State University since 2009 = 4000 course registrations “Both classes [Educational Psychology & Secondary Methods] really opened my eyes to how much thinking and hard work goes into the teaching profession.
