  3. Problem Statement and Research Objectives • Poster template uses eight slides printed on standard 8-1/2” x 11” paper. The poster will be mounted to a backboard that is 28 inches wide by 44 inches tall, and will have a title board mounted at the top. The backboard will then be hung with plastic poster hangers, which you can get from Donna Cackley in the Main Office. • These slides are sized to leave 1/2 inch margins on all four sides of each slides • Suggested Minimum Font Sizes: • For headings: Arial Black 36 pt font • For general text: Arial 24 pt font • Graphs: 24 pt font - take care when resizing graphs to fit into spaces -- the result (not the original) should be 24 point size text. • Make it easy for someone to take a quick glance and understand some basic things about the project.

  4. Approach and/or Methodology Integrate text and graphics a lot if you wish or keep them more separated as in the next sections. Try to use graphics - but make sure someone can quickly grasp what you are trying to do. Make sure figure labeling is readable, units are there and the phenomenon being illustrated is easily identified. Diagram, Chart, Picture, Graph, etc…

  5. Approach and/or Methodology If you use an equation in the poster because it is at the center of your research, make sure all components (superscripts, subscripts, exponents, etc. ) are readable, and explain them well, e.g., use plots to indicate parameter variation effects. Diagram, Chart, Picture, Graph, etc …

  6. Results • Section sizes will vary depending on the stage of your research. • Section sizes can be as small as half a slide. • You don’t need to use exactly the same heading text or format as shown here, but something similar would be advisable. Don’t make fonts any smaller. • In general, less text and more graphics is better, but the graphics need to be well designed so that people can quickly grasp what you are doing and how it can be applied. • Beware of Powerpoint’s automatic font size changes.

  7. Results • You want to draw the reader’s eye to the content and your great research – design the content with that in mind. • Don’t forget to run the poster past your advisor and get her or his approval for content and format. • Use a spell checker. • Ask a friend to proofread and critique before printing --- these can be expensive to print. • Print when perfect.
