PAGES OF HISTORY Milestones of development 1921 – Pharmaceutical institute was opened (functioned till 1936). 1934 – Vinnytsya medical institute was founded on the basis of the Evening industrial medical institute. The first intake of students was conducted for Medico-Preventive and Paediatric faculties. 1960 – by the Decree of Presidium of the Supreme Body of USSR the institute was given the name of N.I. PAGES OF HISTORY 1979 – Preparatory faculty for foreign citizens was opened. 1984 – for success in training doctors and teaching staff, rendering assistance to practical public health services the institute was awarded the order “ Badge of Honour “. 1994 – the institute was accredited on IV (highest) level, the University status was awarded (Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine № 408, dated 15.06.94). 1997, 2000 – for the high rating the university was awarded with the special diploma by the independent experts of International Personnel Academy. PAGES OF HISTORY 2002 – by the President’s of Ukraine decree dated June, 19 2002, № 560/2002 our University was awarded the highest mark of distinction – National status and is called National Pirogov Memorial Medical University, Vinnytsya. 2004 – International links department for recruitment of international students was organized at the University. 2007 – according to the official rating of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, carried out in March, 2007, National Pirogov Memorial Medical University is in the 3rd place in the list of Ukrainian universities. 6. UNIVERSITY’S PROFILE Vinnitsa Medical Institute n.a. N.I. Pirogov and since 1994 the University has been training competent doctors more than 85 years. For this period about 43 thousands of specialists have been trained, who work in Ukraine and in many countries of the world. Now training of specialists is carried out at 53 chairs, where the competent scientific-pedagogical staff works. Among them 93 doctors of science, professors, 17 academicians and 5 members-correspondents of Academies of Science, 421 candidates of science, associated professors. The University has traditions in educational, research activity, organization of the students’ leisure, maintaining of heartly relations with the graduates. UNIVERSITY’S PROFILE Material-technical basis: 3 educational buildings, modern equipment, research centre and centre of new information technologies, more than 600 modern computers, which are connected up to Internet, large library (500 thousand books), own printing house. The Muslim Center and the Mosque function near the University. At the university 5500 students are trained, including 1050 of foreign. In total about 40000 doctors, among them 2000 specialists of the highest level, possessing the Candidate’s and Ph.D., M.D. degrees, including more than 6500 foreign citizens from 93 foreign countries (Europe, Asia, Middle East, Latin America, Africa) have been trained. 8. UNIVERSITY’S PROFILE Annually the University chairs issue 10-12 text-books of methodics and other educational-methodical materials for the foreign students. The activity of the University on training doctors among the foreign citizens, international collaboration and international relations are coordinated by the Vice-rector for international links. In the structure of management of the international citizens’ education function the department for international links, the dean's office of the preparatory faculty and the dean's office for undergraduate and postgraduate international students. TRAINING OF THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS Since 1977 the education of the foreign students is carried out at General Medical and Paediatric Faculties, since 1994 – at Dental and since 2000 – at Pharmaceutical Faculties. More than 6500 doctors in total were prepared and awarded the title of Doctor of Medicine. The curricula of clinical disciplines chairs take into account specific features of regional diseases in different countries of Asia, Africa, Latin America. The fundamental preparation at the university’s chairs ensures the foreign graduates successful passing of internship both at the University, and medical institutions abroad. TRAINING OF THE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS The University’s administration supports constant contacts with the foreign graduates and associations of the graduates of the University, which exist in many countries of the world. The forms of these contacts are different, they are organized by the department of relations with the graduates. The most effective results of engaging foreign citizens in education has an individual work with the students and graduates. 14. PREPARATORY FACULTY The preparatory faculty was organized in 1979. It has modern well equipped educational base with necessary educational-methodical maintenance. Modern design and equipment of the faculty, the necessary package of educational-methodical materials in a combination to the careful attitude of the competent teachers facilitate the adaptation of the preparatory faculty students to conditions of staying and education in Ukraine. The University has the licence of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, which allows to train 500 persons at the preparatory faculty simultaneously. 15. PREPARATORY FACULTY The program of training provides the study of Russian language, Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and other subjects. At the preparatory faculty the atmosphere of confidence between the teachers and foreign students is created, that promotes the education. The graduates of the preparatory faculty are admitted to the first year of studies at different faculties of VNMU. In total more than 4000 foreigners from 62 countries of Europe, Asia, Africa, Latin America completed the course of study at the preparatory faculty. 16. SPORTS AND LEISURE Physical training is included in the curricula of all faculties. Besides the students attend various sports sections; play football, basketball and volleyball being members of united university team on the championship of Ukraine among medical universities. The gymnasiums, grounds are given free of charge. In work with the foreign citizens we take into account their regional, religious, national, individual and psychological features. Active acquaintance of the foreigners with the history and culture of Ukraine, national traditions, life-style of modern Ukrainian youths is carried out. 17. SPORTS AND LEISURE During national holidays and festivals, the foreign students acquaint the staff of the University, population of our city and state with their national art, they organize the exhibitions and quiz games, which tell about the history, culture, traditions of their home-countries. Traditional on such celebrations is tasting of the dishes of national cuisine prepared by the students. 18. VINNYTSYA CITY Vinnytsya is the administrative, economic, regional centre of Ukraine. The city is known as students’ city of Ukraine. Vinnytsya is located on the banks of the river Pivdennyy Bug, 260 kms to the south of the capital of Ukraine Kyiv (3 hours by train), 14 hours by train from Moscow and 6 – from Odessa and from Lviv). The city is connected by the railway and air paths to the western Europe and other countries. Average temperature in winter is 5 –7C below zero, summer – 20 +27C above zero. 19. ADMISSION CONDITIONS. UNDERGRADUATE All foreign citizens having senior secondary school certificate or higher university/college degree from a recognized academic institution are eligible for admission to National Pirogov Memorial Medical University, Vinnytsya (recognized by WHO). The basic language of instruction is Russian. Foreign citizens who don’t know the Russian language or having incomplete command of it may study the Russian language at the Preparatory Faculty of the University along with the pre-university course. National Pirogov Memorial Medical University, Vinnytsya, in accordance with the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers decree No.1238 dated 05.08.1998 (items 5, 18 “Admission rules for foreign citizens and stateless persons to study at higher educational institutions”), issues invitations to foreign citizens who want to study at the Preparatory Faculty, Faculty of Medicine #1 and Faculty of Medicine #2 (specialities: General Medicine, Medical Psychology, Paediatrics), Dentistry, Pharmacy (specialities: Pharmacy, Clinical Pharmacy) and for Post-graduate studies in 53 medical specialities. 20. ADMISSION CONDITIONS. UNDERGRADUATE The official period of admission to the Preparatory Faculty is August, 15 to November, 15 of the current year. During the period of education a place in a room of the students' hostel, furnished accordingly to the social standards is given for the extra charge (12 – 50 USD per month). The tuition fee does not include obligatory medical insurance and medical examination which are paid by the students themselves on arrival to the University (approximately 60 USD). Also students pay for their transfer from the airport “Boryspil” to Vinnytsya (approximately 200 USD). The use of the university’s libraries is included in the tuition fee. To get admission directly to the first year of study without undergoing the Preparatory Faculty candidates have to pass interview in Biology (Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry) or in Chemistry (Faculty of Pharmacy) and interview in Russian or English (with English as medium of instruction). 21. ADMISSION CONDITIONS. UNDERGRADUATE • Studies at the faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and the Preparatory Faculty start from the 1st of September. Therefore it is desirable for the student to arrive in Vinnytsya a week before the education commences. • To get invitation letter the candidate has to send us: • - filled in questionnaire (from the University’s website); • - copy of your passport; • senior secondary school certificate copy. • After obtaining this information we shall consider the point of issuing the invitation letter for you. On obtaining the invitation to study, you should apply for the student visa at the Ukrainian Embassy abroad. • In order to obtain visa and further concluding the tuition contract with the University, you should submit to the Embassy of Ukraine and to the University the following documents: National Pirogov Memorial Medical University, Vinnytsya

22. ADMISSION CONDITIONS. UNDERGRADUATE 1) filled in questionnaire; 2) original and attested translation of senior secondary school certificate with subjects studied and marks/grades obtained; 3) original and attested translation of medical certificate, testifying the absence of HIV-AIDS-infection; 4) original and attested translation of certificate of general medical examination verified by official medical institution from your country of living and dated not more than two months before coming to Ukraine; 5) insurance policy for granting urgent medical assistance (except foreign citizens from countries that have agreements with Ukraine on free medical assistance); 6) original and attested translation of birth certificate; 7) 6 photos (size 4x6 cm); 8) return ticket with open date of coming back to home-country valid within 1 year. 23. ADMISSION CONDITIONS. UNDERGRADUATE Documents No 2, 3, 4, 6 should be authenticated in accordance with the law of the country of their issuance and legalized in the appropriate Ministry and the Embassy of Ukraine. After visa obtaining and a ticket being booked you must inform our university not later than in a week before arrival about the date and exact time of your arrival, flight number to be met in Kyiv, in airport “Boryspil”. 24. ADMISSION CONDITIONS. POSTGRADUATE All foreign citizens having higher university/college degree from a recognized academic institution are eligible for admission to National Pirogov Memorial Medical University, Vinnytsya. Foreign citizens who don’t know the Russian language or having incomplete command of it may study the Russian language at the Preparatory Faculty of the University. 25. ADMISSION CONDITIONS. POSTGRADUATE - specialized PG training in Medicine (clinical ordinatura) (the term of training – 2-5 years); - pure post-graduate studies, leading to Ph.D., M.D. Degree (the term of training – 3-5 years). Master of Medical science course is also possible in English. The average living expenses are 2500 USD yearly. Prior to admission to P.G. studies if the language of instruction is Russian you will undertake the Russian language course. The cost of it is included into 1st year tuition fee. The use of the university’s libraries is included in the tuition fee. POSTGRADUATE • RECOGNITION OF OBTAINED DEGREE • For authentification of educational documents (recognition of adequacy of obtained education with the education in Ukraine) after arrival in Ukraine you must additionally have the following documents: • Original and copy of your Diploma; • 2) Original and copy of transcript of marks (qualification record) of Diploma of higher medical education, containing information on the form and terms of education, system of knowledge evaluation, list of subjects studied, weekly number of credits, number of semesters, educational weeks, practicals in hospitals (C.V.),graduate papers, annotations of professionally oriented subjects, other components of educational process; National Pirogov Memorial Medical University, Vinnytsya

POSTGRADUATE 3) Document of the Supreme educational board (Ministry of Higher Education) about the recognition (accreditation) of the educational institution and the educational program (curriculum) by public authorities of the country to which the educational institution belongs, and country where this educational institution carries out its educational activities; 4) Document of the Supreme educational board (Ministry of Higher Education) on the rights (academic and professional), which are given to the bearer of the document by public authorities of the country to which educational institution belongs, that gave the document; 5) Original and copy of the previous education certificates (senior secondary school certificate) with subjects studied and marks/grades obtained. INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION Byelgorod University, Scientific-Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics, Institute of Pharmacology (Russian Federation); Minsk State Medical Institute (Byelorus’); Azerbaijan Medical University (Azerbaijan); Warsaw Medical Academy, Medical University of Lodz (Poland). Since 2001 our University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (USA) entered into vast collaboration in the frames of ICOHRTA Programme (International Clinical Operational and Health Services Research Training Award). This project facilitates widening of international links not only in scientific, educational and medical-preventive spheres, but also in socio-economic ones. 34. INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION The University also works on the point of enlarging of the list of the countries which recognize the National Pirogov Memorial Medical University Diploma. Formation of the international students’ contingent is carried out with the assistance of cultural attaches of Indian, Nigerian, Yemeni, Jordanian, Lebanese, Egyptian, Syrian, Palestinian, Iranian, Saudi Arabian and other Embassies.
