  2. Did you know: There are 8,129 books in the ETMS media center.

MEDIA CENTER PROCEDURES • Be on your best behavior. • Have a pass from your teacher. • Stay focused on choosing a book that you can read. • Handle books with care. • If you take a book from the shelf, return it to the correct place if you do not want it. Be respectful of other readers! 7. Return your book on time. 8. If you lose a book or your book is overdue you must return it or pay for it before you can check out another book or get your report card.

  4. ACCELERATED READER • All students have been STAR tested to find their reading levels so that they can read books which they understand. At ETM we read books on our ZPD levels. • Students will take AR quizzes after they have read their library books. Work hard to achieve your AR Goals this year!

  5. Did you know: There are 120,000 AR quizzes for ETMS media center. Even if we don’t have a book that you have read in our media center, if there is an AR quiz for it you can take it!

  6. AR BOOK LEVELS • All AR books have colored dots (on the spine) with the reading grade level. The inside back cover also has the grade level, points, AR test number and interest level. • Some shelves are marked for 5th Grade students only. • Only 7th/8th grade should read books marked UG (Upper Grade.)

  7. Did you know: There were 8,035 AR tests taken at ETMS last school year.

  8. WHAT, WHEN, WHY • You should read books within your range so that you can understand and enjoy them. • Point goals will be set for you each 9 weeks. Neat rewards for students who receive their goals! • AR recommends that you read 45-60 minutes per day ON YOUR OWN. Reading time can be divided into 10 minutes, 15 minutes, etc. • AR promises that reading this much, on your own, will help you gain up to two years of reading growth.

AR REWARDS • STAR Readers have read 1,000 pages and passed with a score of 80 or above-ON THEIR ZPD LEVEL. • STAR Readers will have their photos put on the STAR Reader board in the media center. • STAR Readers will be rewarded each time they become a STAR Reader. • STAR Readers will have their names announced over the intercom.

  12. Did you know: There were 152 STAR Readers last school year at ETMS.

  13. MEDIA CENTER RESEARCH • Teachers may bring students to the media center to use books and the laptop computers to do research projects.

  14. Did you know: Classes spent 800+ hours working with the laptop computers at ETMS last school year.

Started a band, and received a golden locket. Back to reality, I take a look, and suddenly realize… I was reading a book!
