  3.  INTRODUCTION • Are children of divorced parents more likely to commit crime? • Our groups’ theory is that children of divorced parents are more likely to commit crime because of their relationships with parents due to the divorce

Intro • Peer pressure is an extra additive when it comes to crime; children are more inclined to get pushed into crime by friends, acquaintances or relatives. • Our findings state that our research is a dependent variable because the research depends on various research tools and other resources.  • All but three of 23 recent studies found some single family structure effect on crime and delinquency. • Seven of the eight studies that used nationally representative data, for example, found that children in single-parent or other non-intact family structures were at greater risk of committing criminal or delinquent acts (Todd Michael Franke, 2000).

  6.  METHOD Our research was made in an attempt to find whether children of divorced parents are more likely to commit crime or not. • Since our research is a dependent variable which can be found in certain already-existing data, our group decided to use the survey method to research our topic. • This research consists of a questionnaire which digs deep into the participant’s personal history. • Getting personal with our participants was our only way to get our answers precise and honest, since our research was based in knowing about their criminal background and family history

  7. Our first step was of course, selecting our group members and deciding on who would lead the group. Every group member printed out a journal or internet source that gave us information on our topic. After we discussed each other’s research, we began writing questions down. Our group came up with about 26 questions, but broke them down to the 15 most important ones Our next step was to go out and find our participants. Our group researched three different areas, campus, our jobs, and outside police stations Method

  8. Once our surveys were completed, we met up twice more. Our group put our heads together, looked over the surveys and picked out the most important questions we’d use in our results as graphs to prove our hypothesis. Once we added the numbers, and found the answer to our hypothesis, we began the results. Method

  9. RESULTS Our results prove that our hypothesis was incorrect,

Results • children of divorced parents are not more likely to commit crimes. • We were able to interview 39 candidates, which was a hard amount of people to tackle down. • Our group tried to interview a equal amount of females and males, but it was a hard goal because men were the ones that had committed the most crimes, so they were the best candidates for our survey. • So we ended up interviewing 15 females and 24 males.

  11. Results The way we broke down our results was by picking out the numbers to the most important questions in our survey. Our questions included: • How many have divorced parents? • How many have committed crimes in the past? • How many say their parents’ divorce affected them? • How many believe their decision to commit crimes was made on their own decision or past-personal matters? • How many regret participating in our survey?

Overall we feel that our project went very smooth and stress free, which is a good thing because most projects take up an incredible amount of time After all the time we spent questioning people, we were struck with the reality that children of divorced parents aren’t more likely to commit crimes. CONCLUSION Other than that, we feel very accomplished and find our research very interesting. If anyone wants to challenge our findings, they are welcomed too.
