  1. Brainboy and the Deathmaster With. . . Irony, metaphors, Alliteration Personification, Foreshadowing Hyperbole

  2. Irony • “No…Then how about some smokes” Pg.5 **In this quote Boris is offering cigarettes for Darryl’s Game Master. This is irony because the thing that caused his family to die (fire) is now being offered to him for the only thing he has left.**

  3. Metaphor • “I’m sorry to disappoint you, but you can’t just pick up a child like a hamburger at a fast food joint. We have procedures here at Masterly.” Pg.59 **In this quote Tor Seilder is comparing Darryl to a cheeseburger**

  4. Alliteration • A tiny figure was swinging toward her, hanging by his knees from another trapeze, growing bigger and bigger the closer they got. Pg.106 **This is a vision Nina is having after she skipped her vitamin. This is alliteration because knees and trapeze rhyme. Letting you know this person is important to her.**

  5. Personification • They were a pretty cheerless group, and nobody’s spirits were lifted by reading the Master Plan. Pg. 240 ** In this quote the children are reading the Master Plan. This is a personification because their spirits aren’t literally floating.**

  6. Foreshadowing • “You gonna shut your pie hole, or am I gonna have to cut you?” Pg.15 **In this quote Boris is threatening Darryl with his pocket knife. This is foreshadowing because you get the feeling that Boris is a bad kid and you can tell this bad deed is going to lead to another.**

  7. Hyperbole • “Could the pilot have escaped before you arrived at the scene?” “Houdini couldn’t have got out of that thing.” Pg.308 **In this scene the news reporter is interviewing the man who took the pilot out of the plane that has crashed. This is a hyperbole because the pilot’s predicament was bad, but not that bad.**
