Transpiration: Ready, Set, Transpire!!Stacy Cunningham, Christy Crammer, and Aline RodriguezAllentown School District NaCl water (Independent Variable) Ice water (Independent Variable) Distilled water (Control) Distilled water (Control) Set up of Experiment: Independent Variable: Put ice in 150 mL of water with red dye until water reaches 0°C Control: 150 mL of water with red dye with celery Place on window sill Set up of Experiment: Independent Variable: Put 4 Tbsp of NaCl in 150 mL of water with red dye Control: 150 mL of water with red dye with celery Place on window sill Results: The rate of transpiration in the NaCl celery was considerably less than in the control water. The water moved on 2.2 cm up the length of the celery in the salt water, whereas it moved up the celery in water to the top, 24 cm. Results: The rate of transpiration in the Ice Water celery was equal to the rate of transpiration in the control water. The water moved 24 cm up the length of both pieces of celery. However, what was not measured but noted the speed at which the dye moved up the celery was considerably slower in the ice water than in the control room temperature water.
