  2. 美国加州的红杉树国家公园（Sequoia National Park）成立于1890年，占地46万英亩，从旧金山北部一直延伸到俄勒冈州，绵亘达640公里,是世界上最大的古老原始的巨林区。它由浩瀚的超过千年树龄的红杉木组成，号称“红杉帝国”。公园内有名为雪曼将军(General Sherman)和世界爷(Sequoiadendron giganteum)的大树 ，树围998吋，树高275呎，树冠幅107呎，是迄今所知全世界最大的树。 红杉树又名美洲杉，长得异常高大，成熟的高达60-100米,红杉树的寿命也特别长，有不少已有2000-3000年的高龄，甚至有生长了5000年之久的古木。红杉木生长神速，成活率高，而且树皮厚，具有很强的避虫害和防火能力,所以它被公认为世界上最有价值的树种之一。
