The Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) Independent non-profit 501(c)(3) working in support of National ITS Program Mission - Improve transportation by promoting research, deployment and operation of intelligent transportation systems Membership approximately 50% private sector and 50% public/non-profit • National and international companies • Federal, state, local and foreign government agencies • Universities, independent research organizations, public interest groups Washington DC office with 20 full time staff and a variety of consultant support

ITS America History Incorporated in 1991 - immediately named as Utilized Federal Advisory Committee to US DOT’s ITS Program Maintained a cooperative agreement with DOT, using our industry committees as a conduit to program support and guidance and occasionally doing special projects Played significant role in most of the DOT activities Congressionally mandated projects: • National Architecture & User Services • National ITS Program Plan: A Ten-Year Vision DOT and Industry driven projects: • Privacy Principles • Intelligent Vehicle Initiative

  4. ITS America History (cont) Delivered formal advice between 1991 and 2003, but delivered even more “informal” advice at the staff level through engagement in various technical committees. Advisory Committee status dropped in 2003, contract mechanism changed to ID/IQ, but partnership continued to grow ITS America continued to grow its membership and in turn our value to DOT, while at the same time expanding our member service offerings that provided secondary benefits to DOT. • Domestic and International Business Development • Legislative and Regulatory Significant “overhaul” in governance in early 2004 in response to changing environment

ITS America and DOT Today Are actively engaged in the nine Major Initiatives, the Exploratory Initiatives, and the Ongoing Programs • Bringing stakeholders to the table through workshops and targeted industry outreach • Bringing specific technical support as needed • Bridging the gap between private sector and public sector Maintain public websites for several DOT programs • www.deploy511.org • www.clarusinitiative.org, etc. • www.vehicle-infrastructure.org Doing our own society-funded activities that strengthen the membership, which in turn benefits our contribution on the DOT projects. • Market research, VII application liaison, etc
