  1. Our will, what we do and desire • The will of others that is outside of our will • The will of God

  2. Sovereign: • One that exercises supreme, permanent authority, especially in a nation or other governmental unit, as: A king, queen, or other noble person who serves as chief of state; a ruler or monarch

  3. Psalm 115:3 (NIV) • Our God is in heaven; He does whatever pleases him.

  4. Daniel 4:35 (NIV) • All the peoples of the earth are regarded as nothing. He does as He pleases with the powers of heaven and the peoples of the earth. No one can hold back His hand or say to Him: “What have you done?”

  5. Colossians 1:16-17 (NIV) • 16 For in Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities;

  6. all things have been created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

  7. 2Tim 3:16-17 (NIV) • All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

  8. Isaiah 55:8-11 (NIV) • “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,    neither are your ways my ways,”declares the Lord.

  9. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,    so are my ways higher than your ways    and my thoughts than your thoughts.

  10. 10 As the rain and the snow    come down from heaven,and do not return to it    without watering the earthand making it bud and flourish,    so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,

  11. 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:    It will not return to me empty,but will accomplish what I desire    and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

  12. Romans 9:14-25 (NIV) • 14 What then shall we say? Is God unjust? Not at all!

  13. 15 For he says to Moses, • “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, • and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” • 16 It does not, therefore, depend on human desire or effort, but on God’s mercy.

  14. 17 For Scripture says to Pharaoh: “I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth.” 18 Therefore God has mercy on whom he wants to have mercy, and he hardens whom he wants to harden.

  15. 19 One of you will say to me: “Then why does God still blame us? For who is able to resist his will?” 20 But who are you, a human being, to talk back to God? “Shall what is formed say to the one who formed it, ‘Why did you make me like this?’”

  16. 21 Does not the potter have the right to make out of the same lump of clay some pottery for special purposes and some for common use?

  17. 22 What if God, although choosing to show his wrath and make his power known, bore with great patience the objects of his wrath—prepared for destruction?

  18. 23 What if he did this to make the riches of his glory known to the objects of his mercy, whom he prepared in advance for glory—

  19. 24 even us, whom he also called, not only from the Jews but also from the Gentiles? 25 As he says in Hosea: • “I will call them ‘my people’ who are not my people; • and I will call her ‘my loved one’ who is not my loved one,”
