  1. 12th Jan 2011AFL – Assessment for LearningLO: To go over our assessment papers from last week to where we gained and lost marks and reflect on what we could do better. To understand what we need to do for our controlled assessment. To reflect and make notes of our 10:10 campaign. Starter – News Review

  2. Assessment– Main sticking points • Lacking knowledge in key areas. (Revision needed) • Not giving enough information for 4 or 9 mark answers. • Discursive Essay writing. • Did you grade = your guesstimate grade? Task - What do you need to improve for the exam?

  3. Controlled Assessment – 3 weeks today!Wed 2nd Feb 11 Part 2 b Evaluation of Practical Citizenship Action. You will be assessed by A02 (Assessment Objective 2 ) AO2 – Apply skills, knowledge and understanding in the context of Active Citizenship - basically you need to show knowledge, skills & understanding of your 10:10 campaign when evaluating how it went.

  4. What do you need to do for a Grade C answer? Student must show in their evaluation: • A limited reflection on the success of the action supported by references to evidence • A reflection on the suitability of their plan relation to outcomes eg did we reach a 10% reduction in electricity consumption? • A limited reflection on what went well and not so well. • A limited description of improvements or next steps to increase the impact of the activity.

  5. What do you need to do for a Grade A answer? Student must offer in their evaluation: • a thorough reflection on the success on the success of the action, supported by a convincing selection of evidence • athorough reflection on the suitability of their plan in relation to outcomes eg to what extent did we meet our 10% target? • athorough evaluation of what went well and not so well • a thorough evaluation of improvements or next steps to increase the impact of the activity

  6. Think about it... • You have seen a grade A answer and a grade C answer – can you now imagine what a grade B answer will look like? • Do you think you can produce a Grade C answer or above? • The key is you need lots of notes to refer to when doing this assessment and you will need a dry run – eg next week • Do you have your homework notes with you? • You are going to make notes today and next week and then do a 1 hour dry run practice.

  7. Main Task – Note taking on Key points of 10:10 Q 1Did we get good publicity – yes we were in newspaper and school magazine and we got our recycling bag campaign in the paper too. We also had publicity in school eg posters, assemblies, energy police advert, , green day advert, swap shop advert Green day advert & Chaucer goes GREEN WEBSITE. Q 2 How did your actions impact on the campaign? What did you get involved in and how successful was it? Explain how what you did made an impact on the campaign some of you did many things and some did very little!!!!!! Q 3 Did we meet our target of 10% reduction in energy use Yes we did in fact higher 13 % by June. Also More recycling around the school. We have also seen a reduction in photocopying and school has cut out a lot of unnecessary paper correspondence thus many staff including senior leadership on board with 10: 10 campaign. Q 4What has subsequently happened? School Uniform recycling now taking place and lots of school correspondence via txt and email etc. 6th Form is extending our work on reducing energy use by investigating sustainable alternatives.

  8. Main task - Note taking (cont) Q 5Was our campaign realistic eg could we easily meet our 10% target? Yes it was if we got a whole school policy in place which we did via the switch off campaign backed up by Energy police. Q 6 What went well? Assemblies and adverts went down well lots of positive feedback and publicity. Our Green day display and Green Xmas stall went well with lots of positive feedback. Remember we receive a £500 donation for sustainable practice from our outside cleaning company who found out about our campaign via display material and the green Chaucer goes green website. Green Cup competition went well and GReen day display was fabulous – very good artwork and display material. Lots of emails sent to raise awareness of campaign to MP and govt ministers Green day – went OK good fund raising and a relatively good number of pupils arrived in green - we got publicity but UNFORTUNATELY our Green T Mobile dance did not work out – technical and pupil issues – apathy.

  9. Main task - Note taking (cont) Q7 – What did not go well? Too many of you lost enthusiasm too early and couldn’t be bothered anymore to engage yourself in the campaign thus green blog forum under used, Yr 9/ 10 energy police stopped doing duties thus lower school EP lost confidence lack of commitment to promote Swap Shop and anti littering campaign Very few of you made an effort by Green day eg failed to even wear green and failed to get engaged with Green Day T Mobile Dance. Basically you started enthusiastic then after a while you could no longer be bothered to follow your idea and keep up the campaign – enthusiasm waned and as the weather heated up & apathy increased. So if anything – perhaps you took on a lot more than you could cope with – the key point to a campaign is to keep it going and continue to fight or keep up the good work.

  10. However.... Is Chaucer a greener place as a result of 10:10? Yes, much more notice is taken now of energy use and reducing it and we have changed school policies concerning energy & communicating by paper and recycling. We have had problems setting up an in house recycling facility due to SE being taken off the timetable this academic year but hopefully it will be sorted next year when SE comes back on timetable.

  11. Plenary • Do you have 3 targets set for your next exam? • Do you feel you understand what is expected of you for the controlled assessment? • Do you have a comprehensive set of notes to take into the assessment? Homework –Write up an evaluation of the key points of your 10:10 campaign to show whether it was successful or not? LO: To go over our assessment papers from last week to where we gained and lost marks and reflect on what we could do better. To understand what we need to do for our controlled assessment. To reflect and make notes of our 10:10 campaign.
