What do we need to improve? • Becoming powerful - truly • Understanding issues completely • Making clear plans (working in partnership) • Checking that things happen • Being respected – truly • Everyone checks with the PB / DPG before taking major decisions about LD • We do things well and helpfully when individuals or organisations need help • Being inclusive and representative • Finding ways of including everyone who has LD • Being more useful to family carers • Improving our networks with other groups and organisations

Urgency of Valuing People Now • Coming this week… • We are being pressed to get ready to “Make it Happen” • NB “Valuing People” didn’t help people become powerful enough to really change things • So we must take the opportunity of VPN and organise ourselves to really improve things in Kent • What do we need to do to get ready?…. • Who decides what needs to happen?....

  4. Different ways of organising the Partnership Board • Parliament + improve representation • Doesn’t address increasing real power • Federal Government • DPGs take it in turns to lead • Extra work & responsibility • Independent + Wokingham • ? Lose influence inside KCC and NHS?

Leadership Team idea • Working all the time, meeting weekly, taking actions • Enough peopleemployed to really do the work • KASS staff support the PB and DPGs to do the work (eg Finance people and Planners) • Executive Group to take decisions quickly • Partnership Board meetings ? focus more on: • sharing between DPGs • Agreeing major issues • Doing less “business”
