  2. Using Media for English Language Teaching

  3. Print Advertisements • Session 1: 12 May 2010

  4. Goals & Expectations What do teachers expect to gain from this session? What do teachers expect to apply from this session in their classrooms? How can various media & materials be used, recycled, and adapted in English language classrooms? What skills can be strengthened inside and beyond the classroom?

  5. Advertisement #1 What is this advertisement about? Who created this ad? How is it attracting or grabbing your attention? (Please discuss in small groups before feedback.)

  6. Advertisement #2 What did you and your group learn from this ad? Did everyone in your group have the same response? A different response? What life values and beliefs are represented in this ad? What ideas or points of view are being told or sold to you? (Please discuss these questions AND the first two, if possible.)

  7. Advertisement #3 Why is this ad made? What kind of message is it sending? Who is the target audience? Why? (Please discuss these, along with the previous questions.)

  8. Create-an-Ad Use a blank sheet of paper to create a simple ad with your group. Think about the audience and the message. Fancy ads are unnecessary. A simple sketch or lines are fine. Have fun with your imagination! Share and discuss with other teachers your ideas behind your ad.

  9. Implications for Teaching How will you adapt what you did today to your language lessons and your student levels? What can you apply to your own language learning and teaching?

  10. Korp khun mak ka • Thank you and see you in the next session!
