  2. History At the behest of Empress Maria Theresa Field Marshal Leopold Count Daun was to: ” Make them fine officers and righteous men “ 14th Dec. 1751

History • By the end of the Monarchy in 1918 a total number of 11.000 officers had graduated from the Academy. • During the Second World War the Castle serves as training facility for the German Wehrmacht. • On 16 March 1945 the Castle is reduced to rubble, following heavy bombardments and fires. • Since 1959 more than 4000 career officers have graduated from the Theresan Military Academy. • On the 1st of January 1998 the FH-Diploma Programme (University of Applied Studies) ”Military leadership“ is established.
