  1. Welcome to the Virtual Learning Module Presented by Samantha Mitchell

  2. The Situation? (Why are we meeting?) • To provide information about the need for more virtual learning opportunities. • To provide and share online tools needed by virtual instructors • To ensure appropriate communication between the virtual learner and virtual teacher • To share virtual experiences (break-out sessions)

  3. Meet our students! • This virtual module was constructed to provide educational options for students who are: • Pregnant – unable to attend school for physical, emotional, or personal reasons

  4. Why should we assist these students? • According to Meeker et. al. (2008), who interviewed a lot of high school dropouts to find that in ranking order the reasons for dropping out of school, he discovered that teenage pregnancy was ranked the number one reason for student drop outs. Attending a virtual learning environment would meet the needs of students who are pregnant as a means to assist them in continuing their education without the hassles of bullying, social embarrassment, and the need of child care.

  8. The online teacher is able to effectively use and incorporate subject-specific and developmentally appropriate technologies, tools, and resources

  9. The online teacher is able to use communication technologies in a variety of mediums and contexts for teaching and learning. Synchronous Asynchronous

  11. The online teacher is able to identify and explore new tools and test their applicability to their content areas and students.
