  2. Content • Reflection • Rotation

  3. Reflection

  4. What is reflection? • Like the image that you see through the mirror. • The image that you see is symmetrical. • After we reflect the figure, the new figure we call it “reflectional image” .

  5. The figure below is a example of reflection, the white line is call axis of symmetry.

  6. Examples-signs The shining line is the axis of symmetry

  7. Examples-road signs

  8. We can also find some reflection examples at home. The shining line is the axis of symmetry

  9. Conclusion In our daily life we can find a lot of examples of reflection figures. If you concentrate more, you can find more good examples.

  10. Rotation

  11. Rotational Symmetry • An object is Rotational Symmetry if there is a centre point around which the object is turned a certain number of degrees and the object still looks the same, i.e. it matches itself a number of times while it is being rotated.

  12. Rotational Symmetry Centre Point ● ● ● • Since this triangle will match itself 3 times as it is rotated, it has rotational symmetry of Order 3.

  13. Rotational Symmetry • This flower has rotational symmetry of Order 5 since it matches itself 5 times.

  14. Rotational Symmetry in the Carpark • Carpark is a place we often find rotational symmetry. Here are a few of the photos we took.

  15. Rotational Symmetry in the Road • We also find rotational symmetry in the road. Here are a few of them.

  16. Kaleidoscopes and Rotational Symmetry • A kaleidoscope is a small tube in which the viewer can see beautiful colours and designs that feature rotational symmetry.

  17. Rotational Symmetry of Plug Holes • Do you know that rotational symmetry can be found in the kitchen and bathroom? • Plug holes can have many different orders of rotational symmetry.

  18. Rotational Symmetry in Religious Symbols • The world has many religions and many of them make use of symmetry in their symbols. Below are two examples.

  19. Rotational Symmetry • Remember: If a shape will only fit itself in one way it has no rotational symmetry. Don't say it has rotational symmetry of order 1!

  20. Rotational Symmetry - Quiz 1. Rotational symmetry of order 3 2. Rotational symmetry of order 2 but no reflection symmetry D and G • Look at the above shapes. Decide which shape or shapes fit each description at the right hand side. E and H
