The West Denver Preparatory Charter School (WDP) implements a performance bonus system aimed at enhancing student achievement. The bonus is 100% objective, focused on quantitative student performance metrics from state and national tests (e.g., NWEA MAPS, CSAP). This innovative structure allocates 50% of the bonus to individual performance and 50% to team performance, promoting accountability among peers. The plan evolves to respond effectively to educational outcomes and remains layered on existing pay scales, with the potential to reward exceptional achievement significantly.

West Denver Prep Performance Bonus 2010-2011 School Year
Bonus: Goals and Objectives • WDP is geared around student achievement. For exceptional achievement, we want to provide additional rewards. • Transparency: We want everyone to understand and align metrics of success. 100% of the bonus is “Objective” – i.e. based on quantitative student performance on state and national tests (NWEA MAPS, CSAP) • In education, increased compensation is traditionally the result of years of service or additional training; we want increased compensation to also be the result of exceptional student achievement results. • Teamwork: 50% of the bonus is based on individual performance, 50% is based on team performance- department, except in first year schools, which use grade. You are accountable to your peers. • Metrics are set based on WDP Accountability Plan goals, with 50% of bonus paid for achieving target goals and 100% for doubling the goal. • Bonus structure intended to be layered on top of – not to replace - an existing pay scale. • Bonus plan is somewhat complex (few others are doing this). It is also a work-in-progress; we revise it often to make it responsive to results. West Denver Preparatory Charter School • www.westdenverprep.org
