  3. What does ‘Erasmus’ mean? • Erasmus = EuRopeanAction Scheme for the Mobility of University Students • Funded by the European Commission up to €15bn during 2014 to 2020 • Erasmus + Programme – Key Action 1, Learning Mobility

  4. What is the Erasmus + Programme? • ‘The Erasmus + Programme’ is the umbrella funding programme encompassing European cooperation in a range of educational and training programmesthroughout Europe and beyond • Beginning in January 2014, it will bring together numerous other mobility funds into one Programme

  5. What are the benefits? • Experience of living and studying in another country • Improved language ability • A valuable addition to your CV • Attractive to future employers • Cultural diversity • Make friends from around the world

Study Placements • What do you study? • Modules that are agreed upon prior to departure and which are recorded in a learning agreement • Length of study visits – 3 to 10 months • Modules that are fully accredited for degree purposes • Modules approved under the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)

  8. Study Placements • When / Where do you study? • Usually during the second year of your degree programme • At partner universities throughout Europe • FCI has a number of partnership agreements • Your Faculty co-ordinator will advise you of these

  9. 2. Work Placements What are they? A period of time spent working and gaining practical experience at a Host enterprise / organisation in a European country Length of work placements – 2 to 12 months

  10. Money Matters!! • Erasmus grants are paid to students who have formally signed a contract • The Erasmus grant is to “cover the additional costs incurred through studying overseas” • 2013/2014 grant ranges from €275/mnth to €375/mnth depending on your host country • How is the grant payable?

  11. How & when do you ‘sign-up’? • Faculty Co-ordinator – Mary Traynor Marian long • Funding is managed by the European Office • Paperwork!!! - application - contract - learning agreement - risk assessment - final report - documentation from your host • Deadline for applications
