  3. What does ‘Erasmus’ mean? • Erasmus = EuRopean Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students • Funded by the European Commission • Lifelong Learning Programme - Erasmus

  4. What is ‘Lifelong Learning Programme’? • ‘The Lifelong Learning Programme’ is the umbrella term encompassing European cooperation in a range of educational programmesin 31European Countries

  5. What are the benefits? • Experience of living and studying in another country • Improved language ability • Cultural diversity • Make friends from around the world • A valuable addition to your CV • Attractive to future employers

Study Placements • What do you study? • Modules that are agreed upon prior to departure and which are recorded in a learning agreement • Length of study visits – 3 to 10 months • Modules that are fully accredited for degree purposes • Modules approved under the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)

  8. Study Placements • When / Where do you study? • Usually during the second year of your degree programme • At partner universities throughout Europe • FBS has a number of partnership agreements • Your Faculty co-ordinator will advise you of these

  9. 2. Work Placements What are they? A period of time spent working and gaining practical experience at a Host enterprise / organisation in a European country Length of work placements – 3 to 12 months

  10. Money Matters!! • Erasmus grants are paid to students who have formally signed a contract • The Erasmus grant is to “cover the additional costs incurred through studying overseas” • 2012/2013 grant ranges from €270/mnth to €370/mnth depending on your host country • How is the grant payable?
