  2. Four Stages of Making a Presentation 1. Determine the purpose Your purpose for this presentation is to introduce and describe your blog project.

  3. 2. Analyze Your Audience Your audience for this presentation is comprised of classmates who have completed the same assignment.

  4. 3. Gather Information Gather all of the items you need for your presentation.

  5. 4. Structure the Presentation Like most composition assignments, most presentations have a structure that includes: • Introduction • Body • Closing

  6. Practice Your Presentation Practice the presentation before you come to class. Go through your slides individually and consider printing them out to edit them before the presentation.

  7. Great News! If you have completed your blog assignment, you will have “gathered” the necessary information for this presentation

Requirements for the Blog Presentation • Title: Your name and the name of your blog (use the “About” or “bio” page on your blog • Mission Statement: use or summarize the mission statement on your blog • Give a brief summary of: a typical single post • Give a brief summary of: a series highlighted on your blog • Add a verbal closing

  9. Sample Presentation I currently teach Advanced Career Writing in the English Department at New York City College of Technology (CUNY)and am excited to teach blog writing and am impressed with the creative ideas my students have. My blog is: Advanced Career Writing Blog Project

Mission Statement The goal of this Advanced Career Writing Blog Project blog (and this last third of the class) is to provide students with the experience of blogging and writing for blogs.  Learning blog writing skills serves many purposes, but the main reasons for having this assignment in my writing course are: • Students new to the job market will already have a running project and documented experience in their potential professional field."New hires" in a professional setting are often required to do the company blogging. • Learning how to write effectively for an online audience, real or imagined, is essential in today's working world. • Blogging can be fun!  I hope my students actually enjoy thinking about a chosen topic in a more "journalistic" or exploratory nature, which is what blogging ultimately is. • Finally, if less interestingly, when I've taught business writing courses in the past, this is the assignment my students liked and found most valuable when the semester was finished.  A couple of students made professional contacts that turned into jobs.
