  3. Project Objective To assist public safety agencies in understanding the capabilities of the GIN network and operating it more effectively in daily and emergency operations

  4. Funding/Project Period • Funding provided through GEMA/HS by the Interoperable Emergency Communications Grant Program (IECGP) • Project initiated October 2009 • Courses to be developed and deployed over two years

  5. Course Development Team • GTRI developing all aspects of GIN training courses • GEMA/HS & GSP providing overall technical guidance • User review committee from Georgia 911 community providing course evaluations • 911 center operators providing user testing

  6. Project Deliverables • Stand-alone web training courses & video: • Basic operator course (completed) • Awareness video (projected completion 1st quarter 2011) • Supervisor’s course (projected completion 1st quarter 2011) • Supplemental web training courses: • Basic radio training course (projected completion 2nd quarter 2011) • Designing radio system infrastructures to enhance use of the GIN course (projected completion 3rd quarter 2011)

Operator Course Overview • Course explains GIN functionalities, demonstrates them, and then allows students to practice and show mastery of skills • Course now available free of charge, 24/7, on web for public safety agency personnel statewide • Register at the following address: • http://www.webinservice.com/gtri

Course Features • Based on a series of lessons describing key GIN functionalities • Simulates how GIN functionalities work then allows student to perform tasks • Presents standard methods of operating GIN tasks, not all possible methods • Provides optional audio narrative • Takes approximately 2-4 hours to complete • Certificates of completion & CEUs to be provided

Course Lesson Topics • GIN Overview • Basic Features of Your GIN Workstation • Using GIN to Communicate with Field Units • Patching Together Field Units (Radio to Radio Talkpath) • Communicating with Another Jurisdiction (Dispatch Talkpath) • The GIN in Action: Example Scenarios • GIN Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  10. Lesson Format • Describes GIN functionalities • Simulates GIN functionalities • Allows students to practice GIN functionalities • Assesses student competence in performing GIN functionalities

Supervisor Buy-In • Successful rollout of the course requires the support of supervisors who: • Take the operator course • Talk to their staff about importance of GIN • Encourage staff members to take course • Provide time for staff members to take course • Recognize accomplishment of staff members who complete course • Continue to encourage others to take course

  12. Technical Assistance • The course web site provides: • An email address to write if you have trouble getting into the course • An email address to identify content issues and suggest changes in the course • Changes will be considered during the first 6 months of course availability, then a second version of the course will be created.
