  14. How to Register for Classes? • 1. Paper Registration Form – Returned to your Social Studies Teacher by February 7th. • 2. Online Registration through the Powerschool Parent Portal before February 14, 2014. Need a username and password? Email portalsupport@whschools.org with the students name and an email address

  15. Register for Three (3) Credits All students entering grade 9 at WHHS must select three credits in elective courses. All electives open to freshmen are listed on the Grade 9 Course Selection Worksheet. Please refer to the course descriptions in the Program of Studies.

  17. Parent Portal Registration Register for all classes through the Powerschool Parent Portal (Powerschool) BEFORE February 14, 2014 Bailey Computer Lab Registration Dates – February 7 – 13, 2014

So, what now? • Period 1 – English **scheduled for you • Period 2 – Social Studies **scheduled for you • Period 3 – Science **scheduled for you • Period 4/5 – Math/Lunch **scheduled for you • Period 6 – 1 credit (or .5 + .5 credit) your choice ex: World Language • Period 7 – 1 credit (or .5 + .5 credit) your choice • Period 8 – 1 credit (or .5 + .5 credit) your choice

  21. REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION All students are required to take, and successfully complete, a minimum of 24 credits.   22. Planning for the Future • All classes count and will be on your high school transcript • You must earn 6 credits to become a sophomore • Absences count • Failure = Repeating the course or being a 9th grader again! • Grades + Credits = Success! 

  23. WHBOE Attendance Policy The West Haven Board of Education recognizes that daily attendance at school is essential and, therefore, establishes an attendance requirement. There is a positive correlation between regular attendance and academic achievement. • For school absences 1-9 within a school year, the absence is considered excused IF the student’s parent/guardian approves such absence and submits appropriate documentation to the school within ten school days of the student’s return to school. • a signed written note from the student’s parent/guardian confirming the absence; or • a signed note from a school official that spoke with the parent/guardian; or • a note confirming the absence by the school nurse or by a licensed medical professional, as appropriate.

For the 10th absence and all absences thereafter, a student’s absence from school will be considered excusedIF the student’s parent/guardian approves such absence and appropriate documentation is submitted by the parent/guardian to the school within ten school days of the student’s return to school and the reason for the absence is for any of the following reasons only: • student illness (verified by a licensed doctor/medical professional); • student’s observance of a religious holiday; • a death in the student’s family or other emergency beyond the control of the student or his family; • a mandated court appearance; • extraordinary educational opportunities pre-approved by a school district administrator

  25. WHBOE Extra Curricular Policy Membership on a team or participation in an activity is a privilege earned through a combination of skill, effort, and attitude. In order to play/participate, students must: • Earn a 2.0 unweighted GPA/maintain a C average • Have no more than one F Eligibility will be determined by grades earned on your last report card. WHHS FALL SPORTS ELIGIBILITY WILL BE DETERMINED BY YOUR 4th MARKING PERIOD GRADES!

  26. Honors Placement Testing • Monday, March 10 – English • Tuesday, March 11 – Mathematics • Wednesday, March 12 – Social Studies • Thursday, March 13 – Spanish • Friday, March 14 – Science All Honors Placement Testing will take place in the Bailey Cafeteria – period 1

Important Dates • February 7 – Paper Registration Forms due to your Social Studies Teacher • February 5 & 12 – 5-7 pm – Registration Assistance at the WHHS Library and the Louis Piantino Library • February 7 – 13 – Online Registration at Bailey Middle School • February 14 – Online Registration Complete • March 10 – 14 – Honors Placement Testing – Bailey café – periods 1 & 2
