How to Register for Classes? • 1. Paper Registration Form – Returned to your Social Studies Teacher by February 7th. • 2. Online Registration through the Powerschool Parent Portal before February 14, 2014. Need a username and password? Email portalsupport@whschools.org with the students name and an email address
Register for Three (3) Credits All students entering grade 9 at WHHS must select three credits in elective courses. All electives open to freshmen are listed on the Grade 9 Course Selection Worksheet. Please refer to the course descriptions in the Program of Studies.

Planning for the Future • All classes count and will be on your high school transcript • You must earn 6 credits to become a sophomore • Absences count • Failure = Repeating the course or being a 9th grader again! • Grades + Credits = Success!
WHBOE Attendance Policy The West Haven Board of Education recognizes that daily attendance at school is essential and, therefore, establishes an attendance requirement. There is a positive correlation between regular attendance and academic achievement. • For school absences 1-9 within a school year, the absence is considered excused IF the student’s parent/guardian approves such absence and submits appropriate documentation to the school within ten school days of the student’s return to school. • a signed written note from the student’s parent/guardian confirming the absence; or • a signed note from a school official that spoke with the parent/guardian; or • a note confirming the absence by the school nurse or by a licensed medical professional, as appropriate.

For the 10th absence and all absences thereafter, a student’s absence from school will be considered excusedIF the student’s parent/guardian approves such absence and appropriate documentation is submitted by the parent/guardian to the school within ten school days of the student’s return to school and the reason for the absence is for any of the following reasons only: • student illness (verified by a licensed doctor/medical professional); • student’s observance of a religious holiday; • a death in the student’s family or other emergency beyond the control of the student or his family; • a mandated court appearance; • extraordinary educational opportunities pre-approved by a school district administrator
WHBOE Extra Curricular Policy Membership on a team or participation in an activity is a privilege earned through a combination of skill, effort, and attitude. In order to play/participate, students must: • Earn a 2.0 unweighted GPA/maintain a C average • Have no more than one F Eligibility will be determined by grades earned on your last report card. WHHS FALL SPORTS ELIGIBILITY WILL BE DETERMINED BY YOUR 4th MARKING PERIOD GRADES!
