  1. WELCOME TO THE JACKSON STREET CHURCH OF CHRIST PLEASE TURN OFF CELL PHONES

  2. Psalm 32:1-4 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit. 3 When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long. 4 For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer.

  3. SIN WITHIN

  4. ACTS 3:19 REPENT -> TIMES OF REFRESHING - Acts 3:19 "Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,

  5. I. SIN WITHIN KEEPS US FROM BEING EFFECTIVE IN THE LORD'S WORK Heb 12:1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

  6. II. SIN WITHIN CAUSES DECAY Mat 23:27 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites ! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men's bones and all uncleanness.

  7. III. SIN WITHIN CAUSES GUILT • Ezek 18:20 'The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself. • Proverbs 21:8 The way of a guilty man is perverse; But as for the pure, his work is right.

  8. IV. SIN WITHIN SEPARATES FROM GOD • Isa 59:2 But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And Your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear. • Micah 3:4 Then they will cry to the LORD, But He will not hear them; He will even hide His face from them at that time, Because they have been evil in their deeds.

  9. V. SIN WITHIN BRINGS SPIRITUAL DEATH • Ephesians 2:1-3 1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. • Col 2:13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses,

  10. VI. SIN WITHIN BRINGS BONDAGE • John 8:34 Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin. • Rom 6:6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.

  11. VII. WHY DO WE HANG OWN TO OUR SIN? • PRIDE KEEPS US FROM ADMISSION & REPENTANCE - James 4:6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble." • WE THINK WE MAY BE THE ONLY ONE WITH A SIN PROBLEM - Rom 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, • PROCRASTINATION - Acts 22:16 And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.' • WE THINK NO ONE KNOWS - Psalm 90:8 You have set our iniquities before You, Our secret sins in the light of Your countenance.

  12. WHAT ABOUT YOUR SIN? • If Christianity is worth living, it’s worth living right. • Someone may need to hear you say, "I'm sorry". • Clara's wreck - the person at fault had no insurance and had been drinking at the time of the accident but he did come to the hospital to say he was sorry and see how Clara was doing. • Wanda's accident - the person at fault never said she was sorry and never came to the hospital to see how Wanda was doing. • I had much better feelings toward the person who said "I'm sorry".

  13. WHAT ABOUT YOUR SIN? • Some of you have heard sermon after sermon and probably felt a need to respond but didn't. Don't put it off again. Repent so times of refreshing can come from the Lord. • Purest immediately after baptism? You can have that same purity now and any time by repenting/confessing your sins. • It’s time to look into the casket. If you died right now would you take sins with you to judgment? You don't have to. • GOD LONGS TO HEAR YOU SAY, “I'M SORRY.” Psalm 32:5 I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD," And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah
