  2. population size • As of 31 Dec 2011, China has a population of more than 1.3 billion- 1,336,718,015- which is about 19.24% of the whole world’s population. (2011 est.) • Yunnan has a population of 45.7 million people. (2011 est.) • There are an estimated of 56 ethnic groups in China and Yunnan making it a country rich in arts and traditions. • Its population growth rate is 0.493% . (2011 est.)

Interesting facts of China’s/Yunnan’s population • In 1949, China became a communist nation with a population of about 541 million • For the next 10 years, the population increased by 118 million and continued to rise through the 1960s. By 1970, the population was roughly around 870 million people • However, the over-growing population had generated serious problems and negatively affected the national economy. • Thus the one-child-per-family policy was implemented in the late 1970s to slow down the population growth.

  4. Life expectancy in Yunnan • The life expectancy of the Chinese citizens is estimated to be 82.2 years old with males living to an age of 79.4 and females living to an age of 85.1. (2011 est.) • Its has a death rate of 7.03 deaths/1000 population and a birth rate of 12.29 births/1,000 population. (2011 est.) • Yunnan also has a mortality rate of 16.06 deaths/1,000 live births: male: 15.61 deaths/1,000 live births and female: 16.57 deaths/1,000 live births (2011 est.)
