  4. Day Services

  5. In 2003 we wrote a plan about how we wanted to make day services in Walsall better. The plan said that by 2010 we would have lots of smaller 'community bases' which support people to use their local services.

  6. We spent lots of time talking to people with learning disabilities, their families and other staff about what they need from a day service. We also spent lots of time talking to them about the changes that would be happening and the support that they would need.

  7. The last of the old day centres closed in September 2009. By December 2009 we had opened seven community bases in Pleck, Willenhall, Pheasey, Moxley, Rushall and Brownhills.

  8. Community Bases

  9. The Community Bases are spread out across Walsall…

  10. We worked with families to make sure that people were using a base near to their home and community. Community Bases are not day centres. They are used as a base to access existing services in the community.
