3. Architecture • One of the most important aspects if the Anglo Saxon culture is there architecture. At first there architecture was quite simple, over time it got more elaborate. The architecture in England was very importantin history; the Anglo Saxons played an important role in its makings. Most structures were made of things such as thatch and timber. Archaeological evidence displays that the Anglo-Saxons didn’t like the architectural style by the Romans, and they chose to build their own cities instead. There’s some structures that are still up today, and most of them are churches.

4. Burial techniques after Christianity • Final phase burial: fewer grave goods, bodies positioned East-West • Princely burials: located under mounds, containing inhumation or cremation • Deviant (execution or battlefield) burials: little or no grave goods, often buried in mass graves

5. Religion • At first Anglo Saxons were Germanic pagans. This religious view is connected to the Norse mythology, also as other pre-Christian religions. The Romans were truly responsible for replacing the religion of the Saxons in the 9th century Much of the traditional religion of the Anglo-Saxons was lost over the years, today we only have knowledge of it because customs and some documents that have made it through time to today

6. Weapons • Spear: 7’ long ash shaft and iron head • Shield: made of wood, covered in leather • Swords: 30” long, made of iron with steel edges • Helmet

7. Clothing • Men: robe gathered at the waist, soft shoes • Women: long robe/dress extending to their feet • Amulets of stone were worn for good luck

8. Leisure • Riddles • Horse racing • Hunting • Juggling dice Chess Harp Playing
