What is the unique value proposition of this building block / Why do we need this for our CRPs? • Radio is the best medium to reach rural communities • Ownership is wide • Big reach • Accessible to many people- reach illiterate communities • Cheap • Reaches them in their local language • Easy to make it participatory and integrated • Proven impact- farmers feel that what they hear on the radio is credible • Note:What works well for farmers will be different for other actors • Messages, for a, etc. • Moreso for the producing side of the chain rather than the other actors • Perhaps use mobile technology to reach all actors along the value chain Building block:

What are principles/critical success factors/interventions/actions needed to take advantage of this BB? • Good knowledge • Most donors don’t want to support the radio station • Staff and equipment • Community engagement: First step is talking to the community first • The community decides which radio station they listen to • Then choose the radio station • Get a buy in from the radio station • Finding the farmers • Partner with farmradio/something like farm radio Building block:
