Transmission Planning Update • Plan on filing an updated Long-term (20 year) Transmission Plan with provincial regulator in December 2013 • Plan will be available on the AESO website, www.aeso.ca • Finalizing detailed regional plans in the next two months • Detailed load flow analysis for study years 2017, 2022, 2032 • Forecasting strong load growth across the province over the planning horizon Forecast Annual Regional Load Growth

  14. AB-BC Intertie (Path 1) Restoration Program

Path 1 Restoration Program • Based on AESO’s recent planning study, Path 1 (AB-BC tie) can operate at full WECC path rating starting 2017 • The study focused on the Alberta system only. • A joint study is underway with BC hydro to identify possible limitations in BC system to restore the Path 1 capability • Targeted for completion by Q1, 2014. • A WECC Path Rating Process will be initiated in early 2014 • A stakeholder presentation of the study results was given on May 7th, 2013 and is available on the AESO website • http://www.aeso.ca/downloads/2013-05-07_Intertie_Restoration_Presentation_(2).pdf

HVDC Projects Status • Two 1000 MWs 500kV HVDC lines • Initially operated as 1000 MW mono-poles • Ultimately will be operated as 2000 MW bi-poles (+20 year time frame) • Both projects are in construction • West HVDC Line • Approximately 350km • 500kV Bi-Pole Structures with Neutral Conductor • ISD: April 2015 • East HVDC Line • Approximately 500km • 500kV Bi-Pole Structures with Neutral Conductor • ISD: December 2014
