Our Mission • For over 80 years, VR has assisted and empowered eligible individuals with disabilities to achieve and maintain meaningful employment.
Eligible Individuals Are: • People with a verifiable impediment. • Impediment must result in a barrier to employment. • The individual must require and benefit from VR services.
What does this mean for Transition? • Eligible individuals can be: • 504 students • Students who had IPE’s in High School • Students with undiagnosed learning disabilities • Students with mental health and substance abuse issues (diagnosed or suspected) • Students receiving Social Security for their disability.

What are barriers to employment? • Mobility • Communication • Self-care or direction • Interpersonal Skills • Work Tolerance • Work Skills
How is a barrier to employment identified? • Past Job History/Lack of Job History • Educational Barriers: Parallel employment • Self reported • Educator reported • Family reported • Medical/Psychological personnel

What benefits can VR offer students? • Attend Planning Meetings • Student does not necessarily need to be a client of VR. • Assessment • Purchase of Diagnostic evaluations • Vocational Evaluations • Medical Services and Treatment • Surgery • Psychological Treatment • Dentistry • Medications • Physical or Speech Therapy • etc
What benefits can VR offer students? • Assistive Technology (AT) • Hearing Aids • Eye Glasses • Wheel Chairs • Van Lifts • Training and Education • Vocational/Technical Schools • College/University • Students must apply for PELL Grant – www.fafsa.ed.gov • Remedial • On the Job Training
What benefits can VR offer students? • Job Placement • Supported Job Base Training • Supported Employment • Job Coach • Transportation • Bus Pass • Counseling and Guidance
What benefits can VR offer students? • Other Services • Readers • Interpreters • Personal Attendant Service • Technical Assistance Service • Referral Services • Tools and Supplies needed for employment • Accommodation Service • For Employment • For Training
What VR is NOT • VR is not an entitlement program • VR is not a scholarship program
Collaborating with VR • Open lines of communication • Proper signed releases in place • Coordination of services • Alternate funding sources utilized • Mutual understanding of program purposes and limitations
