  1. Revelation Ch. 4 Around the Throne of Glory

  2. 1 ¶ After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: Which Heaven? Isa.65:17 ¶ For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind. 2 Peter 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

  3. and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet The trumpet was to arrest John’s attention - Now he saw and heard Exodus 19:19 And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice. Jer. 4:5 Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves …

  4. which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter. 2 And immediately I was in the spirit: < See Ch.1:19 < See Ezekiel 8:3 & 40:1-2

  5. and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, 1 Chronicles 22:10 He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever. (The literal throne of David) Revelation 3:21 To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. (The symbolic throne of David)

  6. and one sat on the throne. 3 And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone: Not MY will, but THINE be done Jasper – clear as crystal (Rev.21:11) Sardine – Flesh coloured Song of Solomon 5:10 My beloved is white and ruddy, the chiefest (standard bearer) among ten thousand.

The symbol of the covenant - Genesis 9:13 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. Hebrews 13:20 Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, Ps.50:1-4

  8. Green is the colour of life a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald. Ps.92:12 The righteous shall flourish like the palm tree: he shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13 Those that be planted in the house of the LORD shall flourish (bud & shoot forth)in the courts of our God. 14 They shall still bring forth fruit in old age; they shall be fat and flourishing; (Heb. Green) 15 To shew that the LORD is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him. Ps 52:8 But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.

Priests of the age to come - 1 Chron.24:1 ¶ Now these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron. …. 3 And David distributed them, both Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, according to their offices in their service. 4 And there were more chief men found of the sons of Eleazar than of the sons of Ithamar; and thus were they divided. Among the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen chief men of the house of their fathers, and eight among the sons of Ithamar according to the house of their fathers. 4 And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting,

Priests of the age to come - 4 And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, 1 Chron.23:3 Now the Levites were numbered from the age of thirty years and upward: and their number by their polls, man by man, was thirty and eight thousand. 4 Of which, twenty and four thousand were to set forward the work of the house of the LORD; and six thousand were officers and judges:

Rulers in the age to come - 1 Chronicles 27:1 Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand. 4 And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, 5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; 10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

  12. clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold. Revelation 19:8 And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

  13. 5 And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: Symbols of the awsome presence & judgments of God Ps. 18:13 The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire. 14 Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them. Ps.144:4 Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away. 5 Bow thy heavens, O LORD, and come down: touch the mountains, and they shall smoke. 6 Cast forth lightning, and scatter them: shoot out thine arrows, and destroy them.

  14. 5 ….and there were seven lamps (Gr. Lampas) of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God. Gr. Lampas a lamp, the flame of which is fed with oil Mt 25:4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. (oil = word of God derived from the spirit of God) These lamps before the throne were burning lamps of fire energised by the spirit of God (Light proceeds from the throne)

What John saw around the throne of Glory One like a Jasper & Sardine - Victorious over flesh, endowed with spirit A rainbow - God has kept his everlasting covenant 24 elders - Saints are now priests and kings clothed in white - they were in God’s presence - righteous crowns of gold - crowned with eternal life through faith lightning & thunder - Judgments of God proceed from the throne 7 lamps burning - The Spirit of God enlightens the world

  16. 6 And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal: Rev.17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. Rev.15:2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass Isa.61:11 For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.

  17. .. and in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts full of eyes before and behind. Beast - Gr. Zoon - a living being Revelation 17:3 So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. Gr - therion A wild animal  2 Chronicles 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.

Cherubim in past & present times represent angelic ministration to keep the way to life Genesis 3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life. Ex 23:20 Behold, I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared. Ezekiel saw the cherubim depart from Israel (The angelic protection to preserve life was removed from the nation)

  19. In the age to come the saints will do what the angels do now Heb 2:5 For unto the angels hath he not put in subjection the world to come, whereof we speak. Isa 30:21 And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it, when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. Da 12:3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

What John saw around the throne of Glory One like Jasper & Sardine-Victorious over flesh, endowed with spirit A rainbow - God has kept his everlasting covenant 24 elders - Saints are now priests of the new age clothed in white - they were in God’s presence - righteous crowns of gold - crowned with eternal life through faith lightning & thunder - Judgments of God proceed from the throne 7 lamps burning - \the Spirit of God enlightens the world sea of glass - Nations are calm, result of right judgement The Cherubim - The saints will do the work done by angels . to guard and protect the way of life

  21. 9 And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever, Their work to preserve the way of the tree of life is only possible through the work of the one who sits on the throne. Rev.5:9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; 10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

  22. 10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 2Tim. 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing. The kings and priests of the age to come acknowledge the victory belongs to the one who sits on the throne.

  23. saying, 11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. < See ch.5 Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Ephesians 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ: Colossians 1:15-19
