  1. Evitherm project mid-term review Work package 7 presented by Pierre Le Parlouër Therm@l Consulting Work Package Leader

  2. WP7: Thermal analysis and calorimetry CONTENTS • Main aims for this work package • Progress to date • Key tasks for Sep – Dec 2004 (launch of pay-site) and for 2005

  3. Description of Work Tasks (WP7) • Task 7.0 : Compile list of manufacturers, suppliers and service providers. List of calorimetric types and techniques (TC) • Task 7.1 : Compile list of research laboratories and research projects (NPL) • Task 7.2 : Develop a database for good practice guides (BUTE) • Task 7.3 : Develop a database for existing standards (IQS) • Task 7.4 : Identify available certified reference materials (LNE) • Task 7.5 : Collect, compile and review databases for existing data (heat capacity, enthalpies,…) (UNITO)

  4. Status on the collection of data (1) Green : compilation OK Red : Compilation to be improved

  5. Status on the collection of data (2) Green : compilation OK Red : Compilation to be improved

  6. Summary of the important tasks for pay access website launch in December 2004 • Input numerical data • TC, UNITO with DSM : Discussion with database owners (THERSYST, ATHAS, TRC, CAMPUS,…) at ICTAC (Italy) in september and NATAS (USA) in october 2004 • TC with DSM : discussion with scientific journals (Elsevier, Kluwer) for transfer of thermophysical data on the website (ongoing) • TC, UNITO : establish collaboration with research laboratories for data transfer (ICTAC meeting) for all types of materials • Produce e-training courses • TC : start the production of e-training courses for SME’s and SMI’s on the thermal analysis techniques and measurements • TC, UNITO, UNIMI : establish collaboration with ICTAC members for the production of e-training courses in different languages. Finalize collaboration with the european and international associations • Establish a network of experts • TC, UNITO : establish collaboration with research laboratories (ICTAC members) to use their expertise and consulting for the evitherm members • … and of course, ALL MEMBERS to continue to populate and update data in the different tasks

  7. Basics • All members : Find more documents giving the basics of thermal analysis and calorimetry for beginners • TC, UNITO : Write specific papers (1-2 pages) on measurements, especially heat capacity Back

  8. Contacts • TC, UNITO, NPL, IQS, BUTE : Establish an electronic directory of the research laboratory (contact, type of research, equipment, applications), especially during the ICTAC meeting (September 2004, Sardinia) • All members : Establish such an electronic directory for your country. Back

  9. Data Qualification Statements • UNITO : Produce data qualification statements, especially for heat capacity, for the different materials groups Back

  10. Equations • All members : Find more specific equations, describing the different calorimetric measurements, thermodynamic applications,… Back

  11. Frequently Asked Questions • All members : Prepare a list of FAQ’s (with the recommendations) for beginners, according to the types of equipments you are using, according to your measurements and applications. Back

  12. Measurement Good Practices • BUTE : Provide a list of documents for the different thermal analysis and calorimetric techniques, for the different calorimetric measurements. If any, write short guidance (1-2 pages) especially for the beginners. Back

  13. Measurement services • IQS, BUTE, UNITO : Provide a list of measurement services (testing laboratories, calibration laboratories, NMI’s, …) for your country, as it is important for the customer to find a laboratory in his country. • TC : Find such measurement services in the other european countries Back

  14. Prediction methods for thermal properties • All members : Provide a list of prediction methods for thermal properties used in your laboratory. • TC : contact different ICTAC members to know the prediction methods they are using Back

  15. Projects • All members : Provide a list of projects (EC funded, national measurement, other R§D programs and projects) in your country • TC : list the EC funded programs in the field of thermal analysis and calorimetry Back

  16. Trade organisations • All members : Provide a list of trade organisations in your countries, in different materials fields, for the promotion of evitherm • TC : Find more european and international trade organisations Back

  17. Training • All members : Provide a list of training centers and training courses in your countries for the thermal analysis and calorimetric techniques. It is important for the beginners to find training in their countries and in their national languages. If any, see how to organize such trainings in your country. • UNITO : Contact the national associations to have a list of the trainings in their country • TC (with UNIMI) : Prepare a beginner’s e-training course on the main thermal analysis techniques (DSC) and measurements (heat capacity).
